quick ride close to Edmonton

Ive never ridden Whitecourt before but I was hoping to get out for a quick ride this weekend and not drive 6 hours to get there from edmonton. I know they had the rally up there last weekend so Im thinking it wouldnt be a good idea to go there but was wondering if anyone had a first hand account to be sure?
