Quadding on the Iron horse

I'm sure this topic is on here already. I lack the patience to search for it.

1st question. Are quads allowed on the Iron horse trail

If so
2nd question. Where is a good place to stage near smoky lake?

3rd question
What kind of riding would it be? Wet,dry. Pretty easy? Challenging spots?

I went on it a few years ago from St Paul with a quad. It is very scenic , but it is basically a gravel road( dusty). There was one small creek you had to drive through.

Sask trail riders has a good write up on this ride,all towns in between are ohv friendly as well...you could really put on the miles, sounds like stock tires are best,closest staging area is on Internet, can't remember

Where is a good place to stage near smoky lake? = If you want to start in Smoky Lake, you can stage right downtown, in the parking lot near the pumpkins, however the trail actually starts at Waskatenau. You can stage in town (in Waskatenau) near the train tracks and ride east about 1/4 mile to the western start point of the Iron Horse

What kind of riding would it be? Wet,dry. Pretty easy? Challenging spots? - It will be easy riding on the trail, smooth, gravel base

Start from Waskateneu only if your determined to ride every km of the Iron horse. From Waskateneu to Smoky Lake is flat, treeless, and lacks any kind of scenery. However, it's a really nice ride between Smoky Lake and Bellis. There are a few sand trails around Bellis which are a nice break from the rail line. It's easy to put on a whack of km, so watch your fuel. Even though there's a town every few km, most of them don't have gas stations. After you leave Smoky Lake, I think Ashmont is the nearest gas station.

There is no Gas Stations in Ashmont at this time. The large complex that was there is CLOSED. There is a good one South of the I H T in Spedden ,AB.
In my traveling the I H T the most interesting ride is the one from St Paul AB, (large staging area), N53.994603 W 111.270219. to Heinsburg,AB. staging area N 53.994603 W 110.52221. The I H T from Elk Poin to Heinsburg is along the N S River.

There is a gas station on the south side of hwy 28 just east of Bellis. Ashmont station is closed.

Ive ridden from Heinsberg to St Paul a couple of times nice ride
All the towns along the way have off road corridors from the Iron Trail to downtown
The train bridge has been fixed at Cold Lake
There are some side trails in the Elk Point area

When you leave Bellis, Going East, the next Ranger Road is 151, go South (Right). 2 KM'S is HWY 28. On the South and East of this intersection is a place called the PITSTOP, Gas and Food .

I was out on the I H T yesterday, a few KM'S, West of Bellis, AB. and traveled some interesting trails South and West of the I H T that was over looking the Edwand CREEK and the White Earth CREEK area. I will be doing some G P S trips in the next few weeks.
