Hey guys just wondering who changed from a 163 to a 174 on the Pro and also to see if they like the 174 better then the 163 for handling with the front end being so light. I am having a problem keeping my front end down with the turbo and was looking for some help or info on the 174 how it is in the trees and also did it help much on the climbs. Also did you do any suspension changes?

Thanks
Darren

i have heard from reputable sources that going from the factory 163 to a 174 3" track gives the sled the same advantage as going to a turbo on the factory track. a stockish 174X3 against a turboed 163 2 1/2 or whatever they are, will run neck and neck all day long climbing and playing in the fields but the non turbo kicks its azz in the trees.
if you want more info on it call Chris at Parkland Motorsports 780-963-0080 he has a 174 on his pro and loves it

yup thats right, he ended up doin some minor mods to it along with the track and he was sayin it kicks azz right now. rides with turbos no problem apparently. and you dont get the turbo lag out of the hole it is instant throttle response.

Rode with a coworker over the weekend and he's got a 2011 pro rmk with boondockers Turbo kit running 12psi, timbersled skid, 174x2.5" camo extreme. The sled runs great, no lag and the skid helps transferring the power instead of it always catwalking.

The pro I built for the show with the BD turbo never even saw oil in the oil tank. The turbo kit was pulled off after the show and was never ran. the boondocker pro turbo kits are running great with no problems just wanted to get that cleared up. I wanted to try the 174 3 inch just on the motor with the power add head and hps can because I sell that combo and wanted to be able to tell people real world info instead of just saying (ya it works). I find that comming off a turbo for 2.5 years that I need a bit more power so the 60hp boss nos kit is going on as we speek, and I will try that. CPI is also sending me a new single pipe to try next week and I will try that so I can let my customes know how it works and if its worth the cash. After that I will bolt the BD turbo kit back on and let her ripppppp. Oh ya the 174 is great in the trees.

i have been testing out this 174 craze for a while now. seems to be not as big of an improvement going from 163 to 174 as there was going from 154-174. possibly because of the track weight. on a turbo sled like yours i imagine that doesnt have as much effect. the 174 makes the sled much harder to handle in the trees ( tight tight trees ) you can not flip it around and button hook it in those really sticky situations. however it does sidehill and carve just as eeasy. this season ive been comparing the 3" 162 against the 174 2.5" and its a wash with maybe even an edge to the 3". not only does it work just as good its alot more fun to ride. but since your having front end problems there is no way a 3" 162 is going to help you. we are having a hard enough time keeping stocker fronnt ends down with the added traction. the 174 will not wheelie. no matter how hard we try so this may be your best option if your willing to sacrafice a bit of maneuverability. yes you can ride it in the trees no problem. but define trees. no one can say with a straight face that the 174 is as nimble as the 163 in a chitty spot. all depends on your riding style. if point in shoot is how you ride with a bit of sparse tree riding then 174 may be the answer.

That's a great point. What most of us call riding in the trees is likely an open hillside to some of you guys that get out and ride every weekend.

It makes quite a difference but its expensive. I have a friend that works with specialty sleds and they are charging $4000 to do all the work.

is that 4g for parts and labour? or just labour? do you get to keep the old track and drivers? if your keeping al the parts and that includes parts and labour that is probably not to bad of a deal as i think parts alone is close to 3500.00

2500 max in parts so 4000 sounds about right. it is a big job. remove skid, remove drivers, press off drivers, press new drivers, install new track, install new drivers, dissasemble skid, install new rails, assemble skid, install tunnel extension, install skid. giverrrr.

most drivers are garbage once removed.

you have to replace the chaincase and do a drop and roll as well, and only chaincase that will allow for the 3" is an avid one. is what i have heard anyways.
