For all you tech guys. On a 06 Summit 800 Primary Is the Helix the same as that of a XP of the same year. If not will the primary off a XP fit on the Summit without too much modifacation?

Hope i didn't confuse anyone

Sorry man, I want to know if the primary off a 06 summit X will fit on my 06 Summit 800. My brother changed the helix out on his 02 to the same setup that was in the X. It turned into a pretty snappy sled. I want to do the same but don't want to have to find press and do all the work. I was wondering if I just change out the Primary from a Summit X will it fit and are they any different to begin with.

Thanks

I'm confused. Do you have the X or the Adrenaline? Do you want to change the primary or the secondary? The helix is in the secondary clutch and if your brother changed his helix and you want to do the same thing, I'm not sure why you would change the primary when you should be changing the helix (if that's what he did and that's what worked for him). Changing the helix in the secondary clutch and changing the primary clutch are two different things. Are you wanting to do both (change the primary clutch and then the helix in the secondary) or just one or the other? You can change the primary so long as the crank tapers are the same, if not, you can have the clutch tapered to match (they are probably the same though) by a machine shop.

Here is the parts microfiche if you want to look at it. Click on "GO" where it says "Products" with "Ski Doo" in the drop down box in the top left hand corner, then click on your sled year in the folder menu that comes up below, then click on "Summit", then click on "Drive Pulley". This will bring up your parts schematic (these are also great for reference during re-assembly as well).

Thanks Modman, I do have the Adrenaline but want to change the clutches to that of the X. Wondering if it is worth the trouble or will there be any change. My bro had the work done for him so i think he is confused about what he has had done too. He had work done on his gears and clutches and it performs well. But then again it is a different sled than mine.

The 06 X clutching was IMO out of the box best clutching BRP has done in a while. But I would think for you to changeit all over you might be better off just buying a clutch kit for yours"cheaper" . Dynamo Joe makes a good kit springs, helix and weights. Plus pretty good info on how to tune with weights after. But so does SS or any of the hi end sled shops, maybe PM Glengine, I think he is opening up a new shop, he can probably steer you in the right direction.

Keep an eye on Ebay. Not sure about Ski Doo's backorder list right now but I know a few months back you couldn't buy a new clutch from them. Maybe you can now but they are still big $$$$$.

Well first of all, as mentioned above, the "Helix" is part of the secondary, it controls shift and back shift. If you are going to start messing with the clutching on your sled you should deffinately get someone to help you who knows what they are doing

My advise to you is stick with the stock clutch calibrations. I've seen so many guys screw up there "good" running Stock sleds by tinkering with their clutching when they have no clue as to what they are doing.

Clutching is a real science... you have to understand how a cvt works before you just start screwing around. There's many factors to consider.
