Just had my one year old primary clutch break in half between the sheaves. I know of 2 other friends who have had the same issue. 12 miles after installing a new primary, the crankshaft siezed up! Last year of engine warranty so hopefully Polaris will cover the repair costs. Anyone else have their clutch break like that?

My guess is the crank seized because a bearing was damaged as the clutch split. But does anyone know why the clutches are splitting? Is it a defect in the clutch, from overheating, over revving?

Lost bolt torque is MO. Retorque 3 times before (just run it up on the stand for a min. at time) first ride. Once after first ride. Then every 500 miles or so to check.
Use a bit of baby powder on the taper too.

I wonder about that as the inner sheave was on so tight that it had to be cut off. Polaris charged me 3 hrs labour. Personally I torque 5 times on the stand before I let a sled out the door. Baby powder is a good idea! I was on a trip when it broke and didnt have the tools to remove it myself. I cringed when I saw the tech get his impact out to do the removal and was about to comment when they ushered out of the shop area! Ive never used an impact yet to remove a clutch and Ive delt with a few stubborn ones in the past.

What year sled? 11/12 were known for this I think. Thought 13 up better. A balance issue I'm sure.
