Starting to make up a Christmas list already lol. Just wondering what you guys wear for say chest protectors and knee pads and all that sort of stuff. Each year goes by and it seems like myself and my group are getting more ballsyer I guess u would say and I just wondered what works best for you. Want something that I barely notice I have on yet does the job it's intended to do. Had a bad crash 2 years ago in the mountains where I broke 2 ribs so I want to avoid doing that again!! Aha!!

The only thing I wear other than the standard helmet/etc is a TekVest. The last 3 years or so I've been wearing the TekVest SX Pro Lite. Does a great job. Saved me a rib or two a few years back. Only problem now is that I've lost some weight, so this one's for sale so I can get a new one! The SX Pro Lite vests have lots of protection and great back support I find. After a ride or two I didn't even notice I was wearing it (until i grew too small for it).

You're going to notice any chest protector that's protecting you properly....but you'll get used to it really quickly. I wear a Tek vest and only really notice it now when I forget to put it on. I wear it on my quad now too. Feel naked without it. They're all on the warm side too, but you can adjust your outer layer to compensate. I won't ride without one.

I don't have much of a comment. Friggin' blown out of proportion sensationalism, IMHO!

If one is dooing the big air, the turbo tree riding, the tight rock chute climbing, etc. then okay I see a point. But isn't it supposed to be about driving with control and common sense and knowing where one is riding and the consequences?

Flame away at this ol' fart and his silly ideas.......

I have to respectfully disagree. My tek vest has saved me broken ribs on a couple of different occasions, and it was doing really harmless stuff. Caught a stump under the snow while tree riding last year and stopped me dead. Bent the heck out my bars and it hurt like a bugger even with the tek vest on.

I love my tek vest. It doesnt restrict you one bit. I find wearing it more comfortable than not wearing it. Best investment you will ever make.

Unexpected crap can happen and it's nice to have the tekvest on. I wear shin guards as well cause I'm tired of banging my shins on running boards or my knee on the console. I'm not doing anything crazy, just little jumps or drops that put my body into an awkward position and landing isn't my strong side.

My brother didn't wear his tekvest 2 years ago thinking we were just going easy that day. Someone triggered an avy above him. He made it out by swimming but he was hit by his sled and another sled on the way down. The bruises were pretty bad.

A buddy didn't wear his vest once last year. Lost it on a simple climb and the sled rolled over him. Screwed up his bicep and couldn't ride the rest of the weekend.

Flat light conditions, you don't see the drop that puts your chest into the bars.

I wear mine every time now. Don't even notice it.

Sorry man i will be buying a tech vest for this new season. After hitting the creek last year while doing "sensible" riding and suffering the results for close to a month I will be purchasing one. Have also hit a stump under the snow and came to and in expected dead stop ....... I will be buying one

I can't believe you put both those words in the same sentence! They're mutually exclusive ya know! :rolling:

Thanks for sharing guys. So it seems the tekvest is the more popular one hey? Little more expensive but I guess you get what you pay for. Hmmm.

Was just looking at a few online sites and they had a ton of random name protective gear that I was just curious about.

Yeah fernie, I'm not any sled necks recruitee or anything but as each trip goes by the jumps are getting bigger, the drops are getting bigger, climbs and overall riding are getting way more technical, I just don't want to put myself in the situation again where I'm losing out on a paychecks when I could get something to protect myself with. Plus broken ribs SUCK!!! Haha.

Do you guys find these vests heavy? Like, what's the WORST thing about them in your opinion? Obviously the protection outweighs the inconvenience by far, just trying to get an idea which one would suit me best

Haha... For once willy your post made me laugh lol.

I wear a tekvest, and a MX kidney belt. The vest takes a bit of time to get used to, but it definitely allows you to lose a layer of clothing. I wear a larger jacket (Klim shell), so I don't notice any restriction of movement. The belt is great when lifting, pulling, and rough trail up.

Honestly no drawbacks in my opinion. I am more comfortable wearing my tekvest than not wearing it........and not just for the protection. It is not heavy, and you just feel "supported" all around. Another big thing is if you wear a backpack it seems to distribute the weight of the pack across your entire body instead of just hanging off your shoulders.
