With the long travel to sledding, I am going to put a pony tank in the bed of the truck and have it plumbed right into the OE tank. Just checking with any body who has done this to see if I need a pump or if just a drain would work. Thanks to all in advance.

So the tank is higher then the OEM tank and you are going to let it flow freely in...or open a drain to fill it the close the drain?

Ya the tank is in the box. Then I will put in a 1/4 ball valve (as a safety), then I don't know if I need a little in line pump or a electronic valve. Put a switch in the cab and when you need to fill up, flip it on and keep driving.

Don't need a pump.Gravity works just fine.Mine used to have an electric valve with a switch in the cab,but it quit working so now its just plumbed direct.

This is the same as mine. It has a solenoid to open the gravity feed from the tank to the hose that is just cut into the stock filler hose. I wouldn't leave it open all the time.I left my switch open on holidays this year and drove from Kelowna to Edson and with the slip tank feeding the stock tank all the time it tripped something in the computor and my fuel gauge went to empty and the low fuel light came on? All I did was shut the switch off and drove for about an hour and the gauge came back on.

Ya I have heard of that, if the gauge doesn't move it messes it up.

My budies' D-max does that too,but once his big tank is empty his guage goes back to full and it works right.

Do they bolt to the front of the box or back side? How the #@$% would I fill the dam thing with the canopy on?:eek::eek:

:d

Mines bolted to the floor. Its under a deck so I made a little trap door to fill it.Not sure how you'd fill one in a canopy.Got...side windows???

That's easy! 4-6" hole saw,cut hole in canopy, buy filler neck with the shield ,attach one end to tank filler and screw/bolt other end into canopy. If you need to remove canopy, simply undo banjo clamp at the tank and remove hose, put original cap on to prevent spillage.

Oh here ya go,put 1 in my dads d-max. I think it's the 98 gallon, here to Sask. and return without a fill.

I have the Titan 52 Gal tank, fits in the stock location. When my fuel gauge does the empty thing when I know it's full, I just punch the brakes to make it slosh a bit and it works good after that. Worth a shot.

Someone mentioned before you need to let your insurance know when you run a slip tank, I'm sure most guys don't, but I don't know what the implications would be in a situation. Just a heads up.

Either way, it's nice to not have to buy fuel in the sledding towns, or tourist traps or whatever.

I'm running one and asked my insurance about it. They just said you need commercial insurance to be 100% safe. Basicly I was told my 3500 diesel for "personal use" is already pushing it, and adding a slip tank really makes it look like a work truck. As long as you cannot fill other things with the tank, you SHOULD be ok. But yea the guys with the tanks with fill nozzles, if they get caught they are right fu*ked, if there insurance doesn't know about the tank, they could easily deny a claim.

Have you looked into the Titan replacement fuel tank? It just replaces small factory tank. Doubles your fuel capacity and no need to take up valuable bed space!!

Where did you get your tank from, I would be interested in one.

To prevent accidental spills, we usually instal a solenoid operated by a simple rotary style timer. Shuts off by it's self that way. We use a non-vented cap, and tie in the stock vent to the new tank to keep from throwing loose fuel cap codes.
You should be able to have nice little stainless door installed cheap.

I think transflow or some thing like that make on to fit under the front of a pace edwards roll top, which is exactly what I need. I think for a thousands bucks I'll just make one. The timer is a nice idea. I think I will use a murphy valve and just gravity flow it.

I had a pony tank in my ford and just let it drain and eventually started leaking from over pressure but a friend has a pump and a toggle switch in the dash with a light as not to forget when it is full again and I think this is the Cats ass
