Is there any major issues I should know about with the 2012 assault? Is the engine problems fixed? about how much HP do they have?

The track doesn't work nearly as well in pow as the one on the pro..........and it needs another 15-20 hp

No Problems with my '12 Assault with 1700kms. The 5.1 Powder track was a snowcheck option on the 2012 Assaults...so NOT all Assaults have the Comp track:D The stock power felt fine to me...hands down the funnest sled ever:)

One of the guys in our group has a '12 assault with the softer track. He rides the hell out of that thing and it works great especially for only being a 155. He might have it back this weekend with a new shortblock after it blew up a month ago.

The non-ported track doesn't work as well as the ported track but it still works, and it runs around 145-150hp at sea level and drops about 17-20hp at 8000ft. It will lose as much as 25hp at elevations higher then 8000ft. Hope this helps.

Any naturally aspirated engine will lose hp at elevation - regardless of who builds it. That said, the poo is known to be a bit less hp then the cat or doo, but you don't ride a dyno. The ones I've seen seem to work well.

Not sure why you guys talk HP at all, first off HP is just a calc of torque and RPM, nothing more - everyone knows that Doo maybe has the highest peak HP but it doesn't mean that has the best usable range or the best power to weight. To make fabricated horsepower all you gotta do is push the peak torque up in the RPM range, doesn't really mean it makes good low end torque or that much torque at all, just that it makes it up high in the RPM band.

105 ft/lbs @ 7,500 rpm = 150 HP
105 ft/lbs @ 7,750 rpm = 155 HP

Same torque, just 250 rpm higher and you "gain" 5 HP.

Real HP should be measured as cumulative over a couple thousand RPM range to see who's cumulative total is the best and to see who's torque curve is the broadest. I can make a screaming 800 on the dyno as well and put all the stock 800's to shame, doesn't mean that anyone wants to ride around at 9300 RPM all day and a high peak but low range motor won't last long and will be harder to clutch than something with a broader range. Don't let the yellow shorts crowd pull you into the hype about who makes the most "magazine advertising" HP.
