Pipeline into the Notch and Wrangler's

Trans Canada Pipelines and a sub-contractor have placed very large rocks and trees throughout the pipeline from Corbin to the Notch. Some of the rocks in the creek crossings are 3'-4 ' in diameter; they are huge. Obviously they do not want traffic on the pipeline. Apparently, the creek crossings will be dangerous even in the winter with lots of snow.

The Fernie Snowmobile Association is working on the problem but doors aren't opening and answers aren't forth coming.

Any S&M guru's know anything that would help us out? Some contacts to get some answers? Personal info can be forwarded via PM and it will be appreciated and secretive or as secretive as one can get in this age of the internet.

Isn't it illegal to alter a creek or waterway?
I wonder why they would oppose access in the winter unless there's a lot of garbage on the pipeline that they end up picking up. I had wondered why bridges for sleds haven't been constructed over the years. I guess transcanada doesn't like sledders on their pipeline and wouldn't want to make access easier.

You can still access the Fernie trails if you stage at the yellow gates right. I thought we were able to get on to the trail system from there without the pipeline?

Actually not only transcanada but other companies doing this......... as part of their pipeline maintenance they dig up areas of interest for inspection and repair.... sometimes there are huge rocks that come out of the excavations that they don't want in the ditch or near the pipe...........for obvious reasons..... so don't think it's a knock against sledders or quadders..... and yes they really don't want ppl on the ROW because of liability reasons....some lines have minimal cover on them to begin with , as for the creeks I really can't see them putting rocks in a creek..on the banks maby but not into a creek........ al these pipelines get older you will see more and more rocks pulled out and left on top where they could become a hazard......... most companies try to put them aside but sometimes they have no choice as there are other lines in the same ROW and cannot cross them just because......other times it's just a lousy maintenance contractor.......Like petroline out of nisku. ha ha just kidding....there really very very lousy.!!

The pipeline is the way in from corbin...that takes you to the trails...there are a few bypasses but most just take the pipeline..should be no worries once the good snow hits after christmas..that piepline is rough as it is until the big snow

The Quad Squad in the Pass does a good job of bridges but they are damn expensive. Yes, you can still access our trails from the yellow gates. But the debris will be evident and apparently hazardous from the Wrangler's cabin to the Notch. We will be working on it.

My understanding, even with the "big snow" it will be hazardous. So we'll do a little communicating and maybe it might mean that the bigger hazards get marked like on the ski hill.

Well Dusty, that was one of my initial thoughts! They are a pain in the Fernie area as we all know. Maybe 'fat tire' has shed some light and what he said makes sense regarding the inspections.

Ferniesnow, there could be truth to that as the contractor wouldn't see evidence of a trail or trail system, so the easiest and quickest would be in the best interest of the contractor. too bad a person couldn't be there and slip a few bills just to make it a little better. cause i know i sell alot of trailing arms from guys tagging rocks or pipeline markers.

Man you can only hope. it will take their lawyers 3 to 4 months to get back to them. thats sh-ty.

TCT was just doing what Dept of Environment request. The road along the pipeline has been "decommissioned' sort of for drainage. A whole new set of whoop-dee-doos so be careful with the bikes. The creek crossings were clothed and planted with grass to prevent silt and yes, there have been rocks placed to restrict quads/sidebysides/trucks, etc.

It is nice to see everyone doing there job to keep the environment in tip-top shape.

I think the road getting to the pipeline from the tin shack was the worst part of the ride last year. Especially at the end of the day.

if there has not been a fresh dump we drive the extra to Fernie or Morrissey and ride the groomed...easier on the body and the equipment.
