Ha!! I see that everyday. It chokes me when I unpack clothing and it has the US price on it..... There is no way the difference is due to exchange... Eff that! When a jacket is close to half the price to buy in the States as in Canada, there is something WRONG!
What also gets me is last year, all of our aftermarket distributors had a 20% + increase in price across the board... how fricken stupid. So you order a set of goggles on Monday, they are 40 bucks, by Friday they are 60.... WTF?

Not to take away from the parts search, but I have a good story that seems to fit with this pricing theme.

Friends of ours live in Fernie and were replacing the windows on their house this summer. They went with Jeldwen windows made in Calgary. He drove into the US and bought the windows there for 30% less than what they wanted in Calgary. Kicker is....the Jeldwen trucks drive by Fernie to deliver the windows to the US reatiler he used. Can't use the "shipping costs" excuse. Unbelievable!

I'll keep my eyes open for an EXT bumper.

As much as i think it's a load, as an employee of a local dealer, i understand the importance of shopping local. As a result i do all of my shopping as close to home as possible. My way to give back - not that i have much to give.... lol

If you buy from us, if you have a problem we do anything we can to fix it, sometimes when you buy online, you don't get that option.

yeah but realistically how often do you have trouble with a clothing item for warranty issues... most often when a article of clothing gets wrecked it would either my fault or the dog chewed on it ....if the dealers cant compete with prices in the states then they should be talking to the distributors and doing something about it ...... how can guys down there be advertising jackets in some case 1/3 of the price compared to the prices are up here and still be making money

I agree 100% but i just mean on the overall i prefer to buy local.

I grew up with my dad owning a local business - if everyone went somewhere else or online he wouldnt still be in business. Thats where that came from - as i am part of the internet generation.

just my 2 cents.

and with being able to buy stuff over the internet has hurt people that have to be the third or fourth in the line trying to make a living where buying off of the internet you only have to deal with one mark-up ... i try to buy local as much as i can but clothing seems to be so marked up it is ridiculus ....

Sometimes its nice to be able to go into a store and try stuff on, and buy it right there and know what you are getting. Not like these people that go to a shoe store, try on 15 pairs, figure out the size and style they want, tie up a customer service rep for 2 hrs, don't give the store/rep a sale, and then go home and order the shoes on the internet for $10 less. I'm totally opposed to price gouging (SKI DOO!!!) but businesses still have to keep the lights on, pay the bills and have staff. Keep in mind that if everyone shopped on the internet and all the stores closed, the local economies would go under. Then when you really NEED that part on Saturday so that you can ride on Sunday, the internet is not going to be able to help you out when it will take 2 weeks to ship it to you. Your local dealer may be open - but expect that part to carry a hefty price (he has to make a profit somewhere if you're buying other parts on the internet and not from him) and you then have to make the call if sledding that weekend is worth the 200% mark up.

We all are in some type of business, so say we are all in the same business - if all of our customers "internet highgraded" (as I like to call it) for the best prices, we would all be undercutting one another and sacrificing quality for costs, which means no raises and no bonuses for employees/managers, and more work with less people. And if you won't work for $4/hr, they will fire you and find someone who can. Internet highgrading hurts local businesses. I personally won't work for "Walmart" management mentalities or Walmart wages.

Think of it this way - you sell tires and the local sled guy sells sleds/clothing. He buys tires from you, but you buy your sled clothing from some cheap outlet on the internet. He finds out that you are not supporting him or goes out of business due to low profits, so he stops supporting you (whether its financial or personal - doesn't matter) - maybe he starts buying his tires from an internet outlet because they are cheaper and its now what he can afford. Now you've both lost customers and profit.

Sorry - I'm against outrageous price gouging, but if something is $20 more for a $300 coat, I'll buy it locally until the local guy I'm buying from stops supporting me.

It's a great thing when you can go into your local shop sit down and have a coffee and BS with the guys at the Parts Counter and buy something you know you can get cheaper from some "Corporation" off the internet, but you still pay more for it locally.

I will always stick with small shops over the internet for everything.

Another thing to think about is; at our shop, regular customers, anyone who purchased a unit over the last year and snow&mud guys all get a 15% off. It's not much, but it adds up over time, and it's our way to give back - and say thanks for buying from us =)

In my head
When our dolar goes up it means I can sell my pruducts for less to my customers...and I do. In turn I have seen my volume go up, or customers make larger purchases they would otherwise not consider. It works well for both of us. I do keep them aware that as the dollar drops I need to do price adjustments, but that's all my customers want, to be treated as they should, not taken advantage of.

May not work in a retail environment, but I do not see why it shouldn't as most parts and such now being brought into Canada from teh US are being purchased for less. Pass that on to your good customers and I bet they buy even more.

I am hoping that the dealers and suppliers are loading up heavily right now and bringing the "REAL" deals to the sled show. What a great opportunity and the timing is perfect....97 cents!!!

A few years ago my friend had almost the same sort of deal with his EXT, If you know someone that does fiberglassing its something that might be able to be fixed for waaaaaaaaay cheaper. My husband redid the nose cone, and now that guys daughter rides the machine..so it is just an idea :)
