painting side panels

Looking at painting the side panels on my summit just wondering what kind of paint would be recommended for this

I don't know what paint u should be using but from what I've seen ur better off not wasting ur money. get a sled wrap it will last.

I painted my hood and console Flat black, used Krylon Fusion with proper prep technique as found on DOotalk how-to section in XP trail/faq's section, a good write up on prep and how to do it. Mine is bullet proof, painted over the yellow so I was real concerned, but it won't chip or scratch.

Side panels are different though, they are more rubbery plastic and I'm not sure they'd hold up to the beating the sides take when turning out when hillclimbing or laying over on side in crusty snow or when going through a Dragons old frozen grave. The wraps I've seen are about as tough as you can get on the panels, my stickers still look new and they take a beating. That's probably the way to go. Otherwise be prepared for lots of touch ups.

if you do decide to there is a vinyl plastic paint that is fairly flexable..and bonds well.

not sure how it holds up to the cold.

i figured. i sprayed the dash on one of my old trucks black with it. i had my boots up on it and beat the heck out of it with cleaners and solvents and it wouldt even chip or scratch.

shiny. but not too shiny

it seemed to only bond well to texture. so xp or rev side panels would be good.

might even want to take a super fine grit paper to it...or not..they have some good texture built in. but a good cleaning is important.

sounds good, pick that paint up at any hardware store?

cdn tire has vinyl paints in automotive section for painting dashboards and door panels, i never tried that stuff though. I used Krylon Fusion from cdn tire or walmart in their paint department, i used Camo Ultra Flat black with Fusion technology. Follow the how-to on dootalk, prep is key to it sticking.

If we paint a plastic part ,,mirrors or door handles we actually use a plastic prep solution with a scratch pad.But i have used Comet and a red scotch brite pad in the past as well .I am not sure if this would work in you situation though

My xp sidepanels were done 2 yrs ago (painted black)...my brother sprayed mine after doing his with just Krylon spray paint...both machines held up awesome...no peeling or blistering and never been touched up.

No the side panels were originally grey on the summits not yellow...I just didn't care for the grey side panels as the fronts were black.

Right - forgot they were grey.
I'm extremely impresses with how they held up.

got my side panels painted, pics are not to great but im happy with the way it turned out, thanks for everyones help.

I have quite a few rides on mine so far and they still look great!
