I had a goal of putting 20,000KM on my 13 XM by the end of this season. I was just about to click over 15,000 so was riding to a spot to get a nice pic of the sled and odometer and at 14,999.8 the engine blew. Fawk we were 36 Km out from the trailhead and I couldn't get it to start although it would pull over ok and sounded like it would almost catch on the one cylinder. We were in a spot that would of required a heli so before I gave up on her I pulled the PTO plug out and with a two handed pull and someone holding the throttle open I got her to run on one jug. I was able to limp out with some fancy side hilling as I could barely get up any hills. This was on the 29th, on the 31st my local dealer had a 163 T3 that someone couldn't pay for, so the stars aligned and I am now going to be riding a T3 the rest of the season!

Would love to be in a position and area to be able to ride that amount of mileage in 2 years in mountains. Nicely done.

And to think, all they have to do is put in the operator's manual maintenance schedule that at every, say, 10000km they require a new top end.

You put a new top end in last year around 10k right?

Be interested to see the inside of the engine to see what failed. Plans for the '13?

Yup, new top end start of last season at about 9500KM. Measured the crank runout start of this season and it was 10 thousand. I was trying to get BRP to warranty it before she blew but it don't matter now. It will get a new short block under warranty( I hope) and will go in the my tour fleet.

They should give you one just because it has 15,000 on it. I doubt there will be that many of those kicking around. Especially in the Xm's.

That is some crazy km... Been interesting to hear what all was replaced in that 15000km. How many clutch rebuilds, belts, plugs, bearings replaced, any loose rivets, etc.

The hr meter was reset by the dealer when the top end was done. I am guessing 450 +- 50. Only on it third belt. Was only towed out once when a rear spring broke and punched a hole in the heat exchange. Plugs just changed once. Clutch rebuilt twice. Throttle rods( part of the skid) changed as the holes were punched out. every thing still tight.

holy crap! That's the best story I've heard in a long time. Love to be able to put that kind of mileage on a sled every year!

Yup

The T3 is pretty amazing sled. Almost have 2000K on it now. Not the best winter to get the most out of it though. The 3" track does not like icy trails or hills.

Bottom end. Crank runout was 10 thoa at the start of the season so it was on borrowed time.

9000k was when the top end was done. Compression was low
