Oil life meters

Not sure if this has been discussed before but... How many of you go by your oil life meter is a GM truck?

I don't use it. I dump the oil around 5-6000 km regardless of what it says
BTW I am referring to a 04 dura max and a 08 6.0L

Th oil life Meters are usually based on mileage or hours since reset on m f350 when I hit the recommended interval by km (8000) my in dash meter still shows aprox 20%

I wouldn't go by the hour meter, one of the guys at work drove the truck until the change oil indication came on, 16000kms !!!!

the gm oil life monitors are based on how you drive, rpm and time. the duramaxes will go around 15000 kms on normal driving and around 12000 kms pulling heavier loads and more idling.

i stick to the oil life monitors on my 2013's as there is an issue with fuel dilution in the oil, something to do with the regen system.

i run amsoil and filters in my 07 lbz's and i will go up to 25000 kms on a change

i would have to do like 20-22 changes a year if i did every 5000kms on my trucks, we rack up the miles fast.

we run our duramaxes commercially and no issues with the longer changes, i was just reading on another thread that the new 2013 dodges can go up to 24000 km on regular dealership oil and filter

On my old 6.0 I would change it at 5000k, which was right around 50%

Ya that's exactly what mine gets to as well 50% at 5000 km

Just did mine today. Standard oil non synthetic changed at 8500 km. Meter said 45% remaining on a 2011 ecoboost

I follow the the indicator system.. as does most my family I believe. Dads a mechanic, just doin as I'm instructed lol Changing it before the light comes on isnt gonna hurt anything but might just be a waste of money? I dunno. Depends how hard your runnin em I guess.

my dmax is at 14000kms and has 15% left on the dic. i wanted to change it sooner but running out of time each day. full synthetic rotella t6, i see no issue with that.

I go 2 cycles on mine usually. Works out to around 22000 kms. 6 liter gas job. Good oil, analyze it every once and a while.

Changing your oil every 5,000kms is a waste in so many way's, thats only 3,100miles. Most all oil's non-synthetic are good for 5,000+miles, that's 8,000kms. Most recommendation's is 10,000kms on non-synthetic. Synthetic can go longer.
If your a long distance driver there is no need to replace the oil under 10,000kms, while short corner store driver's should do it more often.

Vehicles in Europe are every 10,000 miles. No difference in engine technology or oil. Every 5000km is a North American thing.
