My buddy has an 08 163 and loves it. His has been trouble free. It was snowchecked if that makes a difference. I know that after 100 miles or so, the ignition will go to full advance. As for the oil comsumption I have not heard of that as a problem. There is a lot of chatter on other sites I go to about the clutch heat issue. Try posting on DooTalk and Snowest. Between these 3 sites all problems can be solved.

The issue with the hot clutches is probably due to the EPA noise requirements. There is not a single vent on the clutch side of the hoods on the xp's (and only one tiny useless vent on the exhaust side). If you look at the older ZX chassis, there is a lot of venting on that hood (you can even close them off if you want). Without the venting, clutching and engine alignment have to be spot on, especially with the power that the sleds are making. I spent $100 on a 5 piece vent kit (Mountain Magic), and primary clutching changes because the 08 stock setup was way too light. My clutches are now way cooler than a 2006 Summit 800 and 2006 Summit 1000 that I ride with, and they both have small round vents on the clutch side of their sleds. There has to be airflow to keep the temps down. You will also see a longer belt life, and at $180+ per belt, the vent kit will pay for itself over and over. Just my 2cents.

i have an 09 XPX 163 it also is hard on oil. my dealer told me it will do it for the break in period 10 hrs! my buddy has an 08 xpx 163 and said the same until his 10 hr service. i put a specialty sled vent kit on my machine and have not had any belt issues. pull all the insulation out from the side covers this will help a bunch. also pull the tool kit out and the plastic shield on the exhaust side. this will allow the air to flow through the engine compartment. i'm at 500 km's on the original belt and still haven't blown it. i did the screen kit right from new.

Yea the 2009's will be a little hard on the oil. BRP turned up the oil pumps a bit more for this year. And ya for the break in they dump in some more so it sets the rings. I noticed the same thing on my sled as to how much it uses. The difference isn't huge.

my 08 used alot of oil until the 10hr service. Not sure if they did any adjustment while in the shop or if it was just a matter of break in.

I have an 08 XP Everest 800R and I use around 1 liter per 140km. My dealer told me last year when I bought the sled to use synthetic only even though the manual states that the syn blend is prefered. According to this dealer the oil pumps were set up to pump the amount of oil required when using the full synthetic and if I wanted to use the syn blend then they would turn up my pump on the 10 hr check. I was happy to use less of the better product and leave well enough alone.

As for the belts I rode over 1100 km last year on the stock belt which they have recalled. It just started to show some threads when they came out with the redesigned belt and I replaced it under the recall. Havent been out yet this year to see if the new belt is any better but from the drastic reduction in reports of belts blowing up I think things must be better.
