read a vet article, that bulldogs are not very good swimmers. you have to watch them around pools etc. not all labs like water either. didn't know that? interesting!

always wondered why i would see life jackets on some dogs. :twocents:

I had 2 goldens, one you couldn't get out of the water, the other wouldn't go in the water. the ol lady has a standard poodle, they are hunting dogs and even have webbed toes....it will not go in water past his ankles.

their just like us built on experience... my dogs have always loved the water... the GS is not a great swimmer like a lab but their crazy ball drive gets them loving the water..

I however have never seen a dog with a life jacket??? I guess you guys in red deer with 3 mile bend may have. The river probably makes it that much harder for the poor swimmers

I have a Spangold, and from day one I couldn't keep him out of the water. He's an excellent swimmer and loves the snow just as much in the winter.

My friend in St. Albert has a chocolate Lab, he loves the water too. But he is allergic to water, even the dew on wet grass will make him sick.

We had a bulldog growing up.. It could swim, just not with it's head out of the water.... Paddle like hell if he ended up in the lake just too much fwd mass and not a long enough neck to keep its head above water.. Loved the lake and always jumping off the dock, just had to be careful how deep it was..

Wife has a couple pugs, they can't swim, put them in the water and they freak out, won't even try and paddle but there fearless so will jump in with the kids.. Had to get them both lifejackets...

English bulldogs can swim but they need a life vest or they will just sink lol. Because they are so front heavy like my. 62 lb bully he loves the water he will paddle up to his neck.

lol, i believe it.
last spring I did some work to my quad and went out back to test it, drove into the water in the slough and fell victim to a cracked belt intake rubber and couldn't move in about 3 feet of water, wearing shoes of course. had my phone so I called my boy to come out with the commander and pull me out, he got there and I was far enough out he couldn't throw the hook out to me. so he clipped it to the dog's collar and I called him out to me, he swam out there like he knew what was going on, I took the line off his collar and he swam back to shore....wish I would have video'd it.
