This month the first phase of public consultation is being organized for the North Saskatchewan Regional Plan. We invite you to attend the upcoming daytime or evening sessions to learn more about the region as well as share your thoughts on the issues and strategies contained in the Terms of Reference for Developing the North Saskatchewan Regional Plan. See the dates and locations below, which are subject to change.

The North Saskatchewan Region is located in central Alberta and has approximately 85,780 square kilometres, or just under 13 per cent of Alberta’s total land base. The region is bordered by Saskatchewan to the east, British Columbia to the west, the Upper Athabasca and the Lower Athabasca regions to the north and the South Saskatchewan and Red Deer regions to the south.

The purpose of regional planning is to support the numerous policies and strategies that guide natural resource development, support economic growth and protect our environment. Regional plans will integrate these policies and strategies at the regional level and provide the policy direction and clarity for decision makers at the federal, provincial and local levels.

Daytime and afternoon/evening sessions are being planned for the following communities. Stay tuned for more information about how you can RSVP to one of these workshops.

Thanks for posting this Brian. We all should attend at least one meeting in your area. These can change how and where you ride or play in your area.

Made it to the Fort Saskatchewan meeting. Was easy your were walked around and explained about the plan and what they are looking for in the plan. At ANY time you can tell them your concerns and your vision of what should be in the plan. I mentioned the need for more motorized recreation opportunities and organized riding areas for riding and camping. Recreation needs to be a priority and trails and tourism. In the vision statement recreation was not mentioned I asked for recreation to be added to the vision statement.

I went and participated took 20 minutes and I really think it will make a difference. I did my part did you do yours. Its time we were proactive instead of reactive to these land use issues. You all have a chance get out and go to a meeting.

I attended the Sherwood Park evening display. This is kind of weird. They have afternoon round table discussions that people can register and attend. Some of the comments from these afternoon meeting are scary to OHV users mainly atv,utv anything with wheels. There was a comment that said" we need more recreation not OHV wreckreacreation"

Registered today for the June 26 daytime workshop sessions at the Chateau Louis in Edmonton.

Better put my feelings aside and be prepared to strategically argue with green thumbs and OHV Haters.

Can you voice concerns in the evening sessions or is it just a info session

Hi.

My name is Steve, I'm President of NA4WDA.ORG. I have just joined here in an effort to reach out and hopefully combine our efforts a little on this very important topic.

The land owners and green groups are very well organized, where the OHV groups are fragmented and poorly represented.

I went along to the Leduc meeting a couple of weeks ago and was only 1 of 2 people there (early evening). I sat down with one of the directors and he was telling that he was pleased to see an interest, but just how few of the 'off-road' groups he's seen.

One of the comments he made to me was that a lot of land owners are calling for blanket closures because of the 'mud boggers' (his words, not mine). And that we need to make our voice heard.

My concern is that all groups will become tarred with the same brush. Anyone going off-road illegally now will continue to do so, whether the area is open or not, so the only people that would be affected are the people that enjoy our sports legally.

Remember, this doesn't just affect us, it affects anyone that may need back-country access, Hunters, Climbers, Equestrian (for access to trailheads) and many others.

I would encourage anyone reading these forums, whether you're into ATV's, Sleds, Jeeps or anything else to try to make it out to a meeting, Edmonton on the 26th would be best. Talk to the facilitators there, read some of the comments and mobilize your friends to take part in this important process.

Thanks for your time.
Steve
