Last year the staging area on the winter road to Fort Chip moved about 25 miles north of the old staging area. I have used the old staging area as well as the new staging area. I personally have never had any problems but have heard of break ins at the old area. I have been told not to leave any valuables behind and make sure something tempting isn't visible. Some leave their vehicle unlocked. Is theft and vandalism still a problem? Does this area have any patrols by authorities? What is the best advice because I have a 3 year old truck.

when we go we also use both stage areas.. plus places inbetween.. Lock your vehicle most definately.. but don't leave valuables or tempting things around in your vehicle.. we lower the visors and open the glovebox sometimes as well so that people can see we have nothing to hide...but leaving it unlocked is like writing 'STEAL ME' on the side is it not? or maybe people will pop the hood and start taking things from there..

So remove deck faceplates or hide em. Just leave your empty gear bags and straps in the trucks. No need to bring all your usual gadgets along unless there going up the trail w/ ya. Lock your hitch and lock your trailer. park on your ramps.

We have never been broken into on any trip but know others who have. It's unfortunate. We just hope for out of sight.. out of mind. Haven't heard of much/if any damage in the last year because of all the construction traffic up there.. There are no police or security to my knowledge that are in the area.. unless the companies w/ all the equipment have someone checking in (nottt likely!)

I know some of this has been a repeat of what you've said.. but its a good reminded to everyone

Just a warning, don't think anything you do will matter. It's all luck... I had good luck every year playing safe just as mentioned above. Summer of 2009 I had my 2008 stock GMC Diesel window broken by a hydraulic coupling only to have my 3 cd's in a cd holder stolen and my 7to4pin trailer adapter stolen. They somehow cracked the edge of my drivers side mirror as well. I left my center console up as well as the back seat to show nothing of value left in the truck, that just filled my center console up with glass. A good samaritan covered my window with a garbage bag after it rained inside my truck for a couple of days and left me his number. His truck when I talked to him was an older GM truck, no lift, nothing fancy at all and had his front and rear axles stripped from the truck. This is wheels, brakes, axles, the whole works. He had to get his truck on the frame drug up the tow truck deck so he patched up my truck while waiting. They attempted to steal my trailer and unhooked the wiring but gave up when they seen the lock on the hitch I guess? This was after almost 10 years of going up there... It's bad, but it will never stop me from heading up there, I might just resort to putting my truck back in my enclosed trailer as I have previously done on a couple trips when borrowing vehicles that weren't mine....

Always back your rig tight to the bushes or a tree, they are too lazy to try and steel it, too much work trying to get it out by hand. Always park on your ramps, never leave anything of value in plain sight in the cab and it's a 50 / 50 if they still break your windows. It was nice when you could park in the lot by the old solvex security gate when they had 24 hour security during the first start up but that was years ago.....

Lately a lot of people have some one ride out to the staging area and when your off loaded that some one takes the rig back to town and comes back out on a predetermined day to pick you up..... Works every time and nothing gets stolen or busted......

Shouldn't be too much of a problem anymore. After my incident there was a rash of vandalisms on the equipment on the road construction crews and since that time there is now security that patrols up and down that road. It's always been a problem, and most likely always will be. Please don't litter the parking areas with empty cases of beer, their boxes, and damaged coolers. Last year was disgusting the garbage left in the parking lot and it's sad enough to see people use and abuse the town for a decent paycheck, the last thing us locals care to see is the the garbage being left for us to clean up to. Some people last year thought there were helping out by placing their garbage in the back of my truck.... Funny how when the stuff is new, and the cases of beer are full they never get left for you to take, only when it's used it's excess weight and there's never room to take the garbage home?

:nono: It's a long way from St. Albert to the staging area.:cool: I spent a week on the #1 staging area in June 2008, and the Everready Security were there most of the time, Day and Night. Have you noticed that the SRD guys do not park their trucks and trailers in the new staging area, June(2009) they have a spot off the Winter Road before you get to the new staging area, at that time away, from the road construction. One would think that the Spring Bear Outfitter that parks his LARGE Highway type supply trailer And a large Boat trailer chained to a tree, on the South end of the staging area would be a deterrent to theft until at least the middle of June.:rolleyes:;) Just remember guy's its not a desert out there, its a Jungle.
