Need some input...

I have a guy from Washington, USA, interested in trading my a sled for my RMK 900. We are trading the sleds straight across, but will there be any issues for either of us with the sled being from here and the US? Will it effect me when I insure and register the US sled? Will he have the same issues? Are there any costs involved with doing something like this? Taxes? Both are used sleds so I cant see getting charge anything. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Dont want to committ to a deal and end up with a bunch of little surprises. :d

might be alittle bit of a pain my buddy bought a used truck from the states there some minor issues but not huge tax or anything, call customs before hand and your insurance company just to be on the safe side

If you are seriously looking for a great M7, I have a buddy willing to part with his. It is MINT with around 700-800miles on it. (And was bought at CC)I think its a 06??? With the orange graphics. He's a mechanic and when I say mint....I mean MINT. He want's to sell his and buy two new ones for his wife and him. His wifes old phazerII will be handed down to the kids.

You better call the border, explain the situation and see what they say.
When we cross the border we've often been asked if we are bringing down anything that will stay in the US, by US border patrol.

I suspect the deal will be considered that you are importing a sled from the US to Canada, and need to follow the RIV requirements, and pay GST on the value of it. The other guy will be required to do whatever the US requirements are. But I could be wrong. Post how this turns out.

I bought an 06 M7 this year from Montana, didnt have to pay GST but had to file all the RIV paperwork, and then an inspection in Canada to finalize the RIV. Around $250 total, very easy and no real issues. The seller paid the RIV fees for me...

I am not sure how Longhorn got away without paying GST, because everything that comes into Canada is GST applicable. This trade is no different. You will need a bill of sale stating cash value, and will pay tax on that amount, right at the border. Also, make sure it has a clean title. You will want to call the RIV ahead of time, and give them the serial number, so they can check to see if it is admissable into Canada. The RIV will charge you $205. There's a few hoops to jump through, but it really isn't a big deal to import a US sled into Canada.

I still have to pay GST on a used sled? This is a private deal, no dealers involved. Im not even going to the border, the plans are to meet in Golden.

go on RIV web site and get everything you need, especially the "proof of all waranty recalls letter" or you are not going to be happy with what happens if you cant get that letter, get the seller to ge it for you from the dealer he bought the sled from. And make sure that the vin # has not been worn off the tunnel or you will not enjoy yourself.

Just reading on the RIV website and yes it says you must pay GST on all vehicles into Canada. The guy I bought it from is a Canadian, but has a residence in the US. He used to just bring it back and forth, then when I bought it, he handled all the RIV paperwork at the border and delivered it to me in Medicine Hat, then we did the inspection and such here.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but he must have handled the GST when he brought it over. Lucky for me I guess, I didnt have to deal with it.

So I called the RIV this afternoon. WOW.... theres a lot of paper work involved as well as fees. This is what I was told I had to do:

Get the VALID 17 digit VIN #
Sled must have a US State of Compliance or SSVC label on tunnel
Must have a working headlight and kill switch
A re call letter from a dealer/ manufacture saying there are no re calls on it...

Then I need to fax all that before I go to the border.....

Then I need to get a Bill of Sale
A letter stating it has a clear title
Pay TAXES on the value of the sled coming to Canada
The pay $204.75 for Import fees...

After I do all that, RIV will send me another form for a sled inspection. YES, a sled inspection, never heard of that.

Needless to say, Im not doing any of that. If the other guy is willing to pay for the fees at the border and the GST, then maybe.

I guess I will hold out for a local canadian to step up and make me an offer. Might take a while, but I can wait. Had a BC guy offer me an M7, but he had a lean on it and had to cancel or deal. :d
