I have a 96 Touring 500. Just changed out the regulator - burnt a hole in it - the head light will blow within minutes of being changed - anyone had this problem or know what might be the cause?

Summiteer,
I was helping Rosco, the hole was burnt through the first one - the handle bar warmers also melted right off of the bars - we changed the regulator and replaced the bulbs in tail light and head light - the headlight blew right away and the tail light is very bright. Any ideas?

Can you get a volt meter? If you have 12V then it could have been a bad bulb from factory. Does your brake light work? If your handwarmers melted off your wiring harness may have been damaged as well which could cause brake light to be on when brake is not(Or new bulb may just be brighter).
Make sure that any damaged wiring from handwarmers are isolated from the system. If the handwarmer circuit was still shorted out when you put the new regulator on it may have damaged it as well. Voltage test first.
