Not really sure if this is the place for this but i'll post it here anyways. I'm thinking about moving and one of the places that i'm interested in is Rocky. So i'm kinda wondering what it's like to live there, what is there to do around/in town. Is there usually decent snow near by in the winter? I know there are lots of places to go quading in the summer, what about mountain biking or hiking? Just trying to get a feeling for what the town is like, is there pretty much everything you need in town? Any info in general would be great.

Send a message to Hadster( Hadley) on the site.He lives there and can tell you all about Rocky.I have been there lots. Its a nice town ,has everything ya need. You are only an hour from Red Deer.Lots of camping and Quading. There isn't alot of snow but later in the winter you can drive an hour or too and find some.We used to ride by nordegg in the winter ,but with the recent winter weather it isn't great out there either.I am not sure about the hiking as i don't do that

In and around town is pretty much like most any other town of the 7000 pop. range, all the services, swimming pool, rec. activities, hockey, curling.
Tons of hiking and mountian biking in and close to town. Lots of little lakes in the area for fishing.
We often get alot of snow here, the last few years there has been too much to go quading out west during the winter, there can be spots that need more for great sledding, but you still can sled.
Ya most everything you need in town, some big box Can. Tire, Shoppers Drug, 2 different Tim Horny's,Sobey's etc. etc. Wal-mart is half hr. away in Sylvan Lake.
It really is a good place to be at, 2 hrs to Edm. or Cal., 45min. to Red Deer and all the hunting, fishing, camping, Quading, sledding, hiking, sightseeing, just out your back door (west country).

This is only my 2 cents.....
Camping and riding in the area is great. The actual town itself is a #$@&hole! We looked at moving there. Weighed the pro's and con's and resale value and it just wasnt worth it. Its very run down and hasnt been updated or made to look nice in a long time! Dirty, full of indians, and not the easiest place to meet people. There are MUCH nicer places to look at moving to in central Alberta.

could you perhaps suggest some other places that offer the same type of outdoor activities that would be a better place to look into moving?

Is work making u move from where u are?, seems like your in a perfect spot for outdoor fun. Rocky was nice 30 years ago but so was allot of other small towns.

i'm just not really enjoy athabasca i find the town very clicky. moved up there for work and have since taken a new job that gives me more options for places to live, and wouldn't mind being a bit closer to the mountains, 5.5+hrs is a lot of driving just to make it to the mountains let alone a place to sled.

don't compare whitecourt to rocky, not in anyway close. rocky will win in my opinion.
closer to calgary for one. closer to mtn riding, a just all round better place.

Coming from a guy that currently lives in Whitecourt (7+ yrs), was originally from Rocky and manages a business in Rocky...I'd have to agree :d
Don't have to drive 2 1/2 hours to take your wife out to a classy dinner, Don't have to drive 5+ hours to the Sleddin' hill, a little more choice other than a Yamaha shop... quadding, biking, hiking paradise.

Emmaa and her Indians...hahaha... She don't get away much I see. Natives in every town.

i would prefer rocky with close access to the mtns, streams/rivers for fishing and camping close to calgary even though the FLAMES suck but more to offer for the wilderness. go there for a weekend and check it out..

suggest you visit for a few days any area you are interested in, ask around, before you decide, although you could move if you don't like an area.
