I am in the same boat. I was going to follow the manuals recommendation, for the first 1/2-3/4 tank of fuel not go over more than 3/4 throttle but vary the rpm range of the sled while riding. I do know that the belts need 25 km to break in properly also ( so I have been told by the dealer)
But I have also heard and been told to, ride it from the start how you are going to ride it all the time, full pipe or not.

Ride that bit**!! That's what I do/did/. I just vary my RPM's for the first 3/4 tank and don't hold it wide open for very long, (if at all) for the first little while. And now that its off the truck .... Just kiddin'

I just take it easy for a day. It doesn't take long for the rings to seat. Everything else in the motor is on needle bearings. That's my personal opinion. A lot of people are going bash me probably but i have never had a motor failure and when I rebuild my stuff they have minimal wear. Proper warm ups, and maintenance are key to motor life.
Hope you enjoy the new sled!

Premix your first tank, don't ride it too easy but don't keep it at any given rpm for too long. After the first hour start ramping up how hard you ride it and how long you hold rpm for. Stick to the trails and don't climb anything that may require very high rpms for more than about 30 sec but find some snow so you can get that motor working. When I break my sleds (or any engine) in I try to do it in one day and one temperature cycle, I try to work the engine and get the rings to seat and to find any defects in the sled that may require that it go back to the dealer. After you're satisfied that it's broken in change the plugs for good measure.

let it warm up good, ride it hard for 5 or 10 minutes, then slow down and take it easy for a few minutes, repeat for the first tank of fuel....don't be scared to hold it wfo for a bit at a time, just don't go for 2 minutes across the lake.

I've had a lot of toys over the years, and used this method on every one of them on the advice of my pops (he is a lifelong motorhead too). your mileage may vary....

Yes with the oil tanks full add. Pre-mix your first tank of gas (add some oil to it) the extra oil wont hurt anything the cat guys would be able to let you know how much oil to add into the first tank of gas.

As everyone else said, vary your RPM, dont stay constant at one RPM for long durations so as Orinn said, find a nice trail (when we get snow) and take it for a Sunday drive that way you'll be all over the RPM range and if you go WFO on the throttle dont do it for anything more than a short burst.

That's about how we always broke in the race motors :) oh, the most important part............. Have fuggin fun while your doing it :d

Add about 250-300 ml of oil to your first tank of full gas. That's what I read in the manual.

Same oil you put in your reservoir and at the same ratio, this is mainly to avoid any problems from the manufacturer like air bubbles in the oiling system or if the pump is defective etc. The dealers, when they run it up it usually use premix as well but they only run it for so long and they only put in enough to do the job. The extra lubrication doesn't hurt anything either.

And after the first tank of gas is gone through, slap a new set of spark plugs into it.........

That's my theory too.:d Take it in into the Renshaw for it's first trip. By the time you burp the throttle all the way in to the cabin it's broke in and ready to climb.:beer:
