Just wondering if I am oin the rifght track....been having issues with sons sled. Its an M7 with....twin ceramic coated pipes, Supreme power valves, pure logic fuel contoller. We've been having issues with geting the tune down. Seems to have a miss or mulitple missing at mid-range to WOT. Checked fuel pressure and its at a solid 40 lbs, but prior to that we were having spark issues and I am leaning that way again. We lost an mcu and bought one of those horendously expensive peices of chit....changed it out and it ran OK for about an hour.....then lost spark or it was intermitantly weak on either cylinder. Put new coil on and it seemed better but we still can't get this thing tuned and now its fouling plugs even in the garage! It will sometimes start and run and then quit....I am thinking stator????? has anyone had anything to do with RM Stator products? They claim they are better then OEM and they are only $179.00 compared to almost a grand from Cat.....at my wits end but go so much money into his ride that we can't quit now not to mention ....this is really pissing me off....any help would be great.....

Have you checked the chafing wiring issue the M7's had at the taillight? It was known to cause similar problems.

Also, have you tried bypassing the controller wiring and just running the stock injector signal. Can't do that while riding with that pipe setup, but you could try it in the garage and see if it still fouls plugs.

Make sure your controller has a good ground too.

That's all that comes to mind right now.

10-4 good points....might check that wiring issue as we had all that apart when we put his tunnel upgrade kit in and we've changed the seat out a couple of times as well. Thanks for the tips....we'll try that before we order a stator. I was kind of blown away as I have never seen all the electrical components go down at the same time or relatively at the same time. Really odd that we'd loose an MCU, Coil and a stator all at once.....so you've made some excellent suggestions....thanks

sounds kinda like what happened to my 1000 it started to miss at 5500 rpm and wouldnt rev. any higher checked all sorts of stuff out. backed it out of shop to try it out again and it up and died. pulled and pulled on rope sometimes would fire and almost run but wouldnt actually start then it quit firing totally back in shop, no spark, took it to dealer stator was shot. thankfully under warranty. dealer said it would have been around $1200 installed. cost me 52.50 gotta luv. cat care

Hey Dozer....that is EXACTLY what this thing is doing....I almost fell over when I checked with Cat pricing on the stator....apparently RM Stator out of Ontario I think rebuilds them better to OEM spec for under $200.00 so I don't know where the manufacturers come up with these insane prices....if I paid full price for everything I've put on I would be like over $3000.00 ! Thanks for the info....

hey man if the voltage reg goes it will cause you hours of headaches. It makes the sled act like the stator is gone. It is a lot cheaper then a stator and very easy to change. If you know some one with w running F7 or M7 try plugging thiers in. This happened on my sno pro and I bought a used stator installed it and same thing. Started swapping parts till it worked. The reg passed the CAT test from the book but it was pooched. Just my two cents.
Good luck

On the older Cats the throttle safety switch would give intermittant spark issues. It is and same harness on the handle bars as the kill switch (disable the center pin on the plug or unplug the harness and run the sled). Use the key to turn on and off the sled for the test. It is simple and free way test some possibilities.
