Hey,

I'm looking for good riding trails for both quads and bikes within 2 hours of Edmonton. We're taking a day trip on sunday and considering the Cougar Patch, but it sounds like it might be hard for beginer riders on bikes. Any ideas anyone, Thanks.

Long Island Lake is a great spot!
Look in the maps and staging areas.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at some of the pics posted for that area and it looks great. But this time out I have four dirt bike riders with me. I'm not sure if they could handle these trails if there's lots of mud, three of the four are new riders.

Have you ever been to Duvernay Cougar patch near Two Hills? I have been wanting to try that as well, but again not sure if the new dirt bikers will be ok.

Well, the best way for them to learn is to get on the bikes and ride!!!

Made it out to the Cougar Patch on Oct 14/07. We had a blast, I highly recommend this ride. A full day and a little bit of everything to challenge you and your machine. Bring the mud pants and a winch. We were the two quads and 4 trail bikes, we also met up with about another 20 quads. Theres three cabins along the trail suited up with a fire pit and everything. We started out at approximately 11:00am and made it back to the trucks at 7:15pm. Had a blast. Might be heading back this weekend, it sounds like it will be a little cooler but well worth it.

Yes, I printed out the staging directions while planning the trip, but I ended up meeting up with someone before hand that joined up with us that lives in Two Hills. It was great having someone introduce us to the trails, as well meet a fellow trail rider that I hope to join again some day. It's the people your with that really make the trip.

Hey,

I've been to Bruderheim, lots of fun and a good selection of riding. Vega's on the list of places to visit, heard good reports on the riding there. I believe it's very much like Bruderheim lots of sand. How would you rate it? Long Island Lake sounds good and has made it on my list as well. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's sand trails there as well? I'm also interested in Alder Flates, which I think is within the day-trip range from Edmonton. I'm not sure how much longer we will be riding this year, but I'll keep scotting out good riding spots until I'm in a foot of snow. Thanks for all the feed back, I appriciate all the good info.

not sure how to rate vega sandhills , but there seems to be a little bit of every thing for every one, muskeg, sand, dirt trails... THere are some hills that only skilled rifers should attempt and others that are perfect for beginers to learn. to bad they closed off the other side of the sand hills to atvs I heard that it was supose to be awsome, way bigger hills to climb.
