Sold my 07 ram 3500 over the weekend (truck payments were cutting into sled parts budget, Also selling my alum deck)

Looking for a new truck to throw my sled on .. Looked at a couple of Titan's and a Tundra around 10k budget.

I like the looks of the Titan's and they have a bigger engine and seem to be optioned nicer for the price of the Tundras

Anyone here drive one of these jap trucks ? any input ?

I could also look at silverado or ram 1500s, but I think i'd rather go with a Titan or Tundra

The titan has those nice cargo rails that I could build some sort of a DYI loading ramp / deck with

The other thing is, the Titans I've looked at our the crew cab ones with a 5.5' bed (7.5' with the tail gate down) .. I guess that's pushing it a little with a 156 track but it should be ok. My deck was only 8' long so what's 6" shorter !?

Anyway . let me know what you think.. cheers

hey man either way a new tundra or titan is gonna be awesome I'm a nissan dealer who is located right beside a toyota dealer. I love the feel of both trucks and the styling is awesome!!! my 1 complaint is that the tundra's interior is cheaper looking than the titan is and the titan has had the same truck since 2004. the titan also right now has some amazing rates and rebates on right now so it is definately something to look at!!! I had my 163 in the back of my titan for awhile and it was ok ya little long but over all it did all I needed it to do! both trucks have great power and are good on fuel I also like the titan cause we dont have many issues with rearends or trannies or motor work with these trucks wich is a big bonus either way you'll be happy with both trucks but I would go nissan due to the good rebates and rates they have going on right now

will probably go with the king cab with the 1' longer bed .. I like my sled more than my passengers ;)

i currently drive a 2008 Tundra limited, absolutely love it.

used to have a 2003 Tundra, it was a great truck. incredibly reliable.

a lot of guys talk chit about jap trucks, but they are just jealous of the superior build quality!

If you're gonna always haul 1 sled or 1 quad either of those trucks woud probably be a good choice, but for 2 sleds/quads on a deck or a good sized trailer, they're gonna work prett hard, lots of revving and constant shifting. Probably gonna be better off with a bit heavier duty truck if its gonna get used like a truck and not a grocery getter.

We had a 05 Titan with a lift and had lots of problems with it, and the issue were not caused by the lift. We had motor mounts break, exhaust manifold brake, struts going in it all the time and it was hard on gas. It was my wife truck and she used it for around town. We have switched to Toyota and we love it.

My dad had an 04' Titan King Cab LE. It only ever needed oil changes and a set of spark plugs. He traded it in with 185,000kms on it this year. For a half ton, Titans are underrated IMO. Very strong engine and trans combo. The fuel mileage is so-so. We saw as low as 13 with a two place open trailer to 18-19 empty highway. I put a Banks cat back exhaust and a AEM Brute Force intake system on it for him and it sounded sweeeet, very nice tone at around 3k rpm.

I will say earlier Titans had some growing pains, seemed to be a lot of guys having issues with them in 04/05 model years. My dad must've gotten lucky with his 04 but it is something to consider. It would be worth it to take the VIN to a dealer and have them pull up the warranty work thats been done.

Thanks for all the input .. as for a heavier duty truck, well I just sold my 07 ram 3500 :) I've done my homework on this "downgrade" ... Sled parts need my money more than a badass truck does !!! and my buddy can haul his own sled from now on lol

I've also read that the 04s had some issues .. i'll probably go with the 06 king cab

I'd probably go with a 07+ tundra, but i'd be in the same boat financial wise .. I don't really like the earlier tundras and they are way overpriced for what they are.

13 mpg loaded aint so bad !! 18-19 empty is pretty decent for a V8 gasser .. It's no cummins, but I was spending way too much on truck payments to care for milage lol

Cheers

i run an 07 titan and have had 0 problems with it, i have put 140+ kms on in 3 years and have put one wheel bearing into it, has been a great truck, good power, gas pig, but i have heard from lots of people that if you buy the super chip programer you can get 25-30% better milage, looking into picking one up myself.....

i love the truck and would reccomend it to anyone looking, i'm not easy on vehicles and this thing has handled everything i have thrown at it
