Looking at a sled out in MN. Does anyone have info on getting a sled shipped up to Canada?
Do I just get it sent to the Border and go down to get it or get it shipped all the way to my door?
Or does it need to be dropped in Edmonton for customs?

Anyone have links or info on shipping companies?

Thanks

Ship it or take a 24hr 1 way road trip

my brother had bought a quad off cranky ape this summer and had it shipped right to saskatoon. i think the biggest thing is making sure all your paper work is in order and at the boarder something like 48 hours prior to the unit crossing.

Private shipments of self propelled vehicles need a 72 hr. notice to the US Customs at your crossing point, and the original title. This is for used stuff. Not sure about new, untitled sled. Private shipments must clear at the border, no 'in bond' to dest. There are lots of enclosed trailers coming here from Indiana right now and you could get a ride. U Ship, div. of ebay has some transporters that come to Canada, however, not many, as passports are needed and a criminal and maintenance enforcement check is done to returning Americans, so most won't cross into Canada.

We have imported many used sleds and quads, as well as a Spyder, with no problems. Have it shipped to the border and meet the truck there, or get a broker to handle the import and get it shipped to your door or close by. If it's a real good buy get 2 or more and make it worthwhile. When you factor the extra cost involved (shipping, broker fees etc.) the net price is usually $500-$1,000 higher. This has been my experience anyway, and I live 1/2 hr from the US. Mark

Thanks guys,
Little who do you use to ship to the border? I emailed U SHip and they want it crated, on a trailer, or on wheels.
Where is Sask are you? This is a used unit and if I do get it, you may be on my way down to the border. Nice to have someone that has done this before to go over things with.

Hey Culvert

We have just purchased another Nytro Project Black sled and are looking at having it either shipped to Sweet Grass and brokering it ourselves or travelling to MN the first week of January to pick it up. I am going to talk to Canada Customs when I go down Nov 18th to pick up my next Skinz shipment and get all the forms and info I need directly from the border crossing guys I will be using. I'll post up what I find out. Maybe we could work something out.

Culvert. I live on Hiway 6 between Regina and Plentywood. The closest way to MN. is via Portal, SE of Estevan. It's about 425 miles to Fargo from my place. I used U Ship the last time. Got an enclosed trailer in Indiana and the driver picked up 2 M8's for me in MN. I met him @ portal and came home. Total cost was about $1000.
I drove to Missouri to pick up our toyhauler and bought the wife a Spyder while there. Called US customs right away with the info. I was @ Portal in 36 hr., they bitched about the 72 hr. rule but let me go anyway. Depends on the guy. Send a pm if I can help you out. I am leaving for AZ. for 3 weeks on Mon. though. Mark

We've been down to Skinz, they are in Paynesville, MN twice to drop off sleds, pick up sleds and pick up stock. We have gone down through Portal and last time we came back up through North Portal. Never ever ever will we make that mistake again!!! We always use the Sweet Grass/Coutts crossing and never had issues. We had our truck and trailer, stock and sled temporarily seized they went through our truck trailer every single box our pockets EVERYTHING at Portal only to find nothing on us and send us on our way. The young man we dealt with was an arrogant little ***** who had something to prove. He became increasingly frustrated when he couldn't find anything on us and our paper work was perfect.

We travel down to the States at least once a month picking up stock. We do our own brokering all the time. That wasn't our first rodeo just our first time at that port. Lesson learned!
