Does anyone know if trail use at Long Island Lake is restricted to sleds during the winter months? I was out there on Saturday and could only see snowmobile tracks. Some of the trails had snowmobile signs posted, but none of the sings that we saw said anything about "snowmobiles only".

Also, what happens if you do get caught on a trail that is restricted to sleds? Are the trails truly ever restricted to sleds or would we just need to buy a trail pass to gain access?

Pretty sure its sleds only right now, you won't be very popular if you have your quad out there as the trails are groomed. If you are caught, pretty sure they kill and eat you!

Oh geeze, not too sure I'm into the killing part, but they're welome to EAT ME if their cute enough.

Well, I guess it's either time to start shopping for a sled or tracks for the quads.

The last time I was out at Long Island a couple of weeks ago someone had run their quad on some of the trails. Did a real number on them as it seems they had got quite stuck. As much as I would rather go quadding I would rather keep the trails clean for the sleds as it is much nicer to ride. It tends to beat you up if you are riding an older sled and trying to dodge ruts. Just my two cents worth.

Yeah man, that was very likely me. I had never been out there in winter and didn't realize that it wouldn't really be a suitable place for us to ride our quads. We didn't want to just turn around and go home either so we used poor judgment and gave it a go anyway.

You know if you keep driving about 20 min. you will have so many trails to ride you'd better have a GPS. Go N. to Boyle, hang a right and drive 20 km to North Buck Lake. A little before NB you''ll see a sign that say Golden Knotting. Turn left... go about 4-5 km then your in the and dunes. Find a place to unload and have at it. There is a trail system that runs from Plammondon to Long Lake. Up at Buck no one will give you hell and it's also awesome in the summer for off site camping. I love riding there... sand dunes, sand trails, hard pack trails, deep mud runs, and lots of Muskeg. Best fun anywhere and not to many issues with the Police. They leave you alone for the most part. Great riding and you can put on serious miles in one day. Most I made was 135KM in a Rhino.

I appreciate your candor and understanding. Most of us try to be considerate of the other guy or girl. Hope you find some good trails though. Shiny side up eh! ( and boy were you stuck)

Thanks for the directions, I'll definately give this area a try this summer, but this is starting to get a little far for a day trip. One of the reasons I like Long Island Lake (not Long Lake) is that is is only about an hour and fifteen minutes from Edmonton, near Westlok.
