so i had just purchased some xeneon blue 80/100 watt bulbs from royal distributing and put them in, first real ride out 1 of them EXPLODED/ shatterd inside the lens housing...dont know how or why!! is it the bulbs or what?

so my question is how and why it did this?
also it really screwed up my lense housing, made it all fogged/ baked on yellow stuff so is there away to get it off? also instead of paying 80 bucks to replace the housing, can i take the housing apart and scrub that stuff off and re-seal it with silicone?

i also already took the bulbs out and shook the glass out...is it worth buying another 1 or 2 and have another spare or do i just stick with the sucky OEM? i do really like the bulbs are great in the dark, but 1 bulb went...could it be just a faulty bulb or do perhaps just a surge keeping in mind only 1 blew?

any help would be greatly appreciated,
thanks for reading this novel and hope to hear some replies!!!

Could be a faulty bulb, but did you happen to touch the bulb with you bare fingers while installing it? The oils off your finger will cause it to explode.

Only seen light bulbs exploed if the got oil on them, or if there was moisture buildup in the housing.

i've had this happen before with kimpex bulbs and the only thing I could think of is that i scratched the bulb surface during the install, this was only on the yellow tint bulbs tho.

When you install the new ones wear latex goves, then know 100% that you will not touch them!

If you're riding an XP, I don't think you can pry the bucket apart, if you do manage to get it apart don't touch the silver reflector in there, it doesn't take much for that silver to rub off and your left with the black backing showing. (personal experience from a different project) :)

Take a multi meter and confirm whether you have AC or DC power at the socket. A lot of these need AC bulbs since the power comes directly off of your mag, and may not go through a rectifier
