Just learned how to stay upright and moving forward on a dirt bike today! woo hoo. Love quadding and sledding, but was kind of scared to ride a dirt bike. Thanks to some encouragement from my friends here, I tried it today.

1st pic
Hubby telling me how not to crash

next pic. Letting the clutch out. (yep my eyes are closed)

Found 1st gear

And I'm off, being chased down the road by my neighbors pitbull. Hee hee.

Road all day on a few trails. Decided that rocks and snow are not my friend. Wobbled a few times, but no crashes! :d:d:beer:

Way to go Sleddinmom, wont be long till our takin big air and cat walkn down the road.lol

Thanks Scrambled! It may be a while. Went out with my step daughter today and was reminded that the brake on a sled is not the same as on a dirt bike. Ended up being very well aquainted with a spruce tree. Then I actually did crash, bit of road rash, nothing serious. Had a complete blast! Was awesome. We went up a trail called Anchor creek.

My step daughter and I (anchor creek is up that little mountain in the pic)

My little bit of road rash. Hee hee!:d

So mom .....where was your gear.....wear work boots or some kind of ankle boot....knee pads and a chest protector....play safe....

Wearing my boots, and my chest protector. Hoolies getting his boots quick like too. Getting everyone geared up. Thanks for the tips on what to get.

After my ribs incident this winter, a chest protector is a must must must.
I want to get the kids all riding pants and boots, and chest protectors. Fun hawgs in Cranbrook has some pretty good deals. Just about finding sizing. :d:d Thanks for everyone's input. very appreciated!

If you can find or get close to a race track, there is always someone out growing gear.... I know there is here , We buy new for the racer, but I use his used stuff and the rest of the kids get used gear, picked up some almost new stuff from time to time and the price works as neww gear for a kid thats out grows two seta of boots a year....

Good, I was about to comment on that as well.

A good set of boots is VERY important, your ankles and feet are really vulnerable on a bike - they need protection and support. It's just a lot more comfortable too, especially when standing. I just cringe when I see people riding in running shoes.

Pants, knee pads, elbow pads, and a chest protector are all must haves IMHO. Regardless of whether you're just learning or you ride at an A pace, crashes happen, and proper gear makes all the difference. Like was said below, search around for used stuff, there's tons of it out there, especially for kids, and most of it is in like new condition.

Dirt biking is a BLAST. I love to see that you and your family are getting into it, it'll provide a lifetime of fun.
