So I got a used Klx110 and the original holeshot snowripper kit about a year ago. Kept it hidden as a secret, until the oldest pulled his wait with some chores ect...

Anyway

Just Broke it out recently and it’s still a bit tall for him. (Think I can adjust it a bit) but first I wanted to play on it.

2 short rides, 8” snow. Cold, -15/20. Rip for 10/15 mins then she died. Could restart and get a slow idle but died with throttle. Same thing both rides. Starts normal after it thaws out in the garage.

My guess is main jet is freezing in the carb?

Any ideas to keep it warm?

Air cooled bike, e start but likely limited power supply.

How old is the fuel in it? I just put a ripper kit on the boys Honda 110 this year. Bike sat from October to mid January. The bike was acting similar to yours was. I drained the fuel out and ran some fresh 91 and a half can of sea foam in it. its running like a champ now. I think these bikes are picky with fuel when it's cold out.

I found that the bike was a bit tall for my boy too. I drilled a hole in the bar for the center bike shock and lowered it half an inch. Only problem with lowering it this way is the plastic shroud won't fit without melting on the exhaust. May look at replacing the skid shock with a shorter version. Also lowered the front forks down in the trees as far as it would allow.

I would try insulating the carb maybe try some shrouding off the head? Don't want to limit engine cooling too much but need to keep the carb from icing.

Yea. Bike was in hiding for a bit, Fuel is a bit old. But was ethanol free premium with stabilizer. But easy to drain it and retry.

Does sea foam act like gas line antifreeze? Any negatives to fuel line antifreeze mixed in the fuel on these bikes?

Thought I was gonna have to pull the carb apart for a cleaning as it died like the main plugged up. Then started no prob after it thawed. Exact same the second time so figured it’s freezing.

Might try to build a little carb jacket and get some heat from the cylinder.

Front ski also seems to have too much ski pressure or the skag is too grippy.

I was surprised how fast the fuel went rotten in the Honda. I'll be running Aspen fuel in it for now on. Not sure what type of ski came on the holeshot kit, maybe a C&A? The kit I bought came with a gripper ski with steel side runners bolted to either side of the ski. The ski seems to be ok but not great. I would think it would do well with a dual carbide runner ski.

Yes. C+a ski. Single runner. And the previous owner swapped it for a carbide. But way too much resistance.

My thought was to also move to 2 skags on the sides as well. The ski leans over and uses the edge when it’s turned so figured they would grip when turning but won’t catch as bad on gravel or a road crossing.

You can run a little gas line anti-freeze no problem when it is this cold. Fresh gas, and clean carb. Instead of trying to pipe cylinder heat, make a little neoprene jacket and put a handwarmer in it. Cheap and effective.

Thanks.

Good ideas!

On the kawi the carb is just above cylinder, I was thinking the little jacket could cover a bit of cylinder and could capture the cylinder heat pretty easy.

I will find some time to experiment again over the weekend.
