Kill switch issues

on my 2001 MXZ 380, the kill switch only works once the engine is warm and has been running for about half an hour. if the engine is cold, the only way to kill the engine is to use the choke, put it in reverse or, in some cases, use the primer to flood it. however once it has been running for a while it works flawlessly. any ideas?:rolleyes:
