We are still seeking a 3rd or 4th year apprentice or Journeyman Automotive mechanic.


We have a unique opportunity for the motorsports/automotive enthusiast.
Parkland Motorsports/OK Tire Auto Service builds and modifies snowmobiles and side by sides, but we also provide full mechanical service for your vehicle.
We pride ourselves on customer satisfaction.


If you:​

• have 2 to 3 years experience working on passanger vehicles and light trucks
• are a 3rd or 4th year apprentice or journeyman mechanic
• have a strong attention to detail
• are able to work independantly
• have a current, vaild drivers license
• have a passion for Snowmobiles/ATV/Side by Sides
  

Position to start immediately
Wage negotiable dependant on experience and knowledge.

Not that I am interested but I am curious what kind of wages a job like this would pay. I am interested in what my local mechanic makes. Do these jobs pay in the 50 - 60k a year category?

A journeyman makes $40-45/hr. if he's any good in a busy shop that's $140 000/ yr.

Those are Alberta prices in the Koots an automotive J-man probably makes $32 if he's lucky. Even at $45/hr unless he works a boatload of OT he's at ~$94k.

I make 33 hr straight time.

Many shops around same thing.

Realistically the journeyman rates in Alberta are between 24 and 65 and hour. There will be some are are even less and even more but are rare.

Well from most places that I know its 33% of the shop rate.

Some are even less. The dealer I used to work at is a 140 or 145 door rate but the journeyman rate is around 38-40 and hour.

One reason why the trades are dying is because of the tools a guy needs to survive and make money. An apprentice making 14 or 16 a hour isn't gonna have jack chit to buy tools and the JM don't exactly like their stuff getting used by someone else. Costs to much to fix air tools these days
I easily have $25,000-$30,000 in tools including tool box.
And there are more easier and more appealing jobs out there right now for kids outta high school. There are countless of mechanics etc that got out of the trades because it's not the easiest job in the world. Make hay when the sun shines sometimes and then loose the next job ya get. It gets old fast. But get into a good busy flat rate shop and it's allright
