I was out there working at KMP last summer, on the sub for FMI. Being so close to the potlines we did see plumes of crap come out and almost cover the hills/mountains once in awhile

This was on my locals fb page I thought I'd share it here for my fellow s&m'ers

While I agree that the emissions should be limited (how the heck did they get permission to run a smelter without scrubbers?) I have to wonder, what's in it for the union? Unions don't do anything unless there's $$$ for them involved somehow...

I'm not sure how they could get permission to run like that but I do know RTA has lots of $$$ to throw around

Ya, I guess you could look it that way, imo and i'd hope they would be fighting for the health of the 950 or so smelter workers. I remember a few guys on site telling me that people who worked at the alcan usually didn't live to see 65. But I do see where your coming from,it costs money to go to court maybe some fines will be paid to unifor?

Unlike big business, that does things for the right reasons all the time regardless of profit or cost. The union represents its membership, healthy employed members are probably the goal.
