This happened in one of our Toronto offices last week, who'd stand around and take picture:confused::

looks staged.

I don't know, mine gets so hot that the fan won't keep up, it just shuts down and the fan keeps running. I had to buy a stand for underneath because it got so hot that it ended up actually puting a crack in my oak table.

yeah but why would u stand around and take pics when your cubicle is on fire I think is more the point? I would have thrown a glass of water on it or grabbed a fire extinguisher, most people don't have a cell phone ready to start taking pics.......

not saying they don't get hot, but kinda looks staged to me too.

looks staged.

I can assure you this was not staged. The picture taker lives in the cubicle behind him was observing the commotion and taking pictures with his phone.

In partnership with our corporate supplier, Dell, the Business Transformation (BT) Client Computing and Safety teams are investigating a laptop fire that occurred on Monday, May 31, at the <SNIP> building in Scarborough, Ontario. A team member’s E6400 laptop burst into flames. There were no injuries, but understandably, the office was shaken by the event.

The <SNIP> Chief Information Office is taking this occurrence with the utmost seriousness and says the safety of team members is the primary concern.

“We immediately engaged Dell at the top levels of their organization and have received direct assurances from their worldwide senior vice-president and general manager,” says <SNIP>, vice-president of IT Infrastructure Operations in BT.

Dells issued a letter to <SNIP>. that states, “This is the only incident of this type involving the Latitude E6400 from a population of millions of units in the field and we do not believe there is a risk of additional incidents.”

The investigation with Dell is ongoing and the Client Computing team will update team members if there are further safety concerns. While we have had no other reports of similar issues, if you notice your computer is overheating, contact <SNIP>.

There have been a couple of battery recalls affecting several laptop manufactures including Dell. I wonder if this was one of the affected laptops and the battery was not replaced?

That's called a bad installation job,,,,, with that bundle of wires as a connection, is what caused an overload ....-electrical fire-, started in wiring. Not the computer itself....
