I have a 1990 Honda 300 fourtrax 4x4; it has started to make a loud ticking sound, I've adjusted the valves but continues to tick. It sounds like it is coming from the cam, if I rotate the engine by hand I get a tick or click sound every time the valves close. Any idea what it could be.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of oil up there, the problem was the cam bolts had backed out.
I'm going to change the gears, chain and tensioner.

In a Dakota R/T, down by the South Sask. River

Ur cam resides under cam cover, the cam cover can also b called a valve cover, its the very top potion of ur cyl. that black plug on side of motor is the cam plug. The cam rides in that groove inside motor, there should b inspection ports for doin valve clearance adjustments. This should be done by a tech or someone w good mech experience, set it wrong and damage may occur.
Do u know how to check valves clearances JDRIDER????
