I put my boat away for the season. This year I thought that I would free up some space in my garage, so I bought a Sea Can to store my boat in. It was a tight fit But I got her in there.

backed her in until I could set the hitch wheel on the floor then pushed her in the rest of the way by hand

try to get some major venting in it......seen the sea cans have MAJOR condensaion where it almost rains in side of them (here in bc) very hard on the engines. almost like parking your sled in the lake lol!

just my 2 cents!

X2....if you store anything in them that can be damaged by high humidity, it will be destroyed. several people bought them and stored furniture etc only to have to throw everything out due to mold, rust, and warpage of wood products, especially anything made with particle board. worst storage idea ever. great for transporting goods across the ocean tho....lol

When we ship or store our race boats in containers, we get a bunch of desacant beads from Gregg Distributors. Helps with the moisture, and if you're only using them for storage, install a roof ventilation fan. Not sure where to get the fan, but probably at UFA or something like that. Solves the moisture problem.:)

You could run a dehumidifier but would likely be costly. I bought a sled from a guy once that had stored it in his enclosed trailer - same idea - lots of corrosion.

Good idea on the sea can - just get some major vents in their - wouldn't be a bad idea to have a turbine on the roof and lower wall vents to pull air through the sea can.

We store our sleds in one everyear for the last 5-6 years, never been a problem yet. It does get hot in the summer. I was always going to put a turbine roof vent "aluminuim ball" on each end to get some air flow. But I havent got to that project yet.

my mom and dad have one for storage at the farm, but it was a new/rebuilt one that she got. It gets warm in there, but there isn't anything stored in there that would have major amounts of moisture in it... I like the dessicant beads though...

$5000 for a 53 footer doesn't sound bad. Where did you get it from Pipes? I am needing one this fall.

I got a couple 20' that I use as a toy garage and work space. When ur in and out of them all the time, yes they can have a huge humidity problem. I originally bought them to store everything from the house when I sold and moved. The new place wasn't ready to move in till 15 months later. Not one bit of damage from the humidity. Block them up off the ground, load it then stay out till it's time to unload. Also make sure there are no holes in the roof. Melting snow dripping in can cause lots of grief with humidity.

Just a question, what is the inside width on a Sea Can? I have been thinking about one for storage as well.
