I have an 08 Kawi and I have that set up with the optimizer. The optimizer only adds fuel it does not take away. So it will not run any leaner than stock. I noticed on mine it was a little lean without the optimizer but I have a buddy with an outty and he does not run the optimizer. Plugs look good..
Installed my clutch kit today and took the grizz for a rip. yup she's running lean, gotta get the optimizer. anyone running this setup what do u have the settings at? Just so i got an idea of where to set it before i spend lots of time doing plug checks.
This is what HMF recommends probaly as usfull as there jetting recommendations for my brute
HMF Recommended Jetting for Grizzly 700 (07-09)
2007-2009: Slip on: Optimizer Setting - 3 / 3 / 4
Leave enough slack on the wire harness and keep the Optimizer visible for "on the fly" tuning.
Electrical components are NOT completely waterproof, the Optimizer is water resistant.
These settings were determined on our dyno at 900ft - 60°F
Bikes must be jetted for valid exhaust warranties.
I installed the optimizer now but every time under hard acceleration or just cruising at half throttle it acts like it shuts the fuel off and quaad stumbles for a bit then goes again for awhile. unhooked it and problem went away. anyone ever experience this?
I would really check the ground wire. If that isnt the problem you could start to mess with it or mabe you need more air. Try running with the air box open a bit.
The first light is is for bottom end zero to half throttle the second light is for mid range and the third is top end. The last two light do nothing. It is some thing that can not be changed.
Also if you go to the HMF web site there is a form there and you can ask the people that make them.
Hey Northern Bear, when you quad was cutting out - did you notice if your reverse indicator light was coming? I had a similar problem with my 700 Griz, but when I unplugged my optimizer it was fine for a short time. Then it happened again - I have since replaced the revese light switch (recommended by a Yamaha dealer) and it has been fine since. I have not re-connected the optimizer yet, but I am going to.
I know this post is a month old now but northernbear, I have the same setup as you, 700 grizz, utility pipe, k&n filter and optimizer. Before all these mods, when I reved the engine up a lot in sticky mud, then when I let off the gas the engine would die. Now the problem isn't as bad but it's still there. Also anytime I start the engine cold, it will die unless I help it out for a few seconds by engaging the throttle. Did you ever find the perfect optimizer settings?
I never did find the perfect settings for the optimizer, something makes me think i got it at 1-1-1.5 seems to run not bad there. I'm thinkin for the most part its still over fuelling. Seems to run fine when i'm on and off the throttle its just when i'm cruising at anywhere between 1/4 and 1/2 throttle the engine misses a bit. as far as the engine stalling mine does that to, but only when i'm real hard on the throttle and back off quick when in a mud hole, and yes i need to give fuel when starting when hot or cold some times. My conclusion is its running to rich on the idle adjustment which can be adjusted through the dash pod. Someday when i'm ambitious i'll try setting it lower, but i'm content with how its running now.
