I bought a 99 ski-doo grand touring SE 809tripple, The thing seems to run great and is in great shape. The only thing is when you warm it up at an idle, after about one minute of idle time,it pukes out about one cup of antifreeze out the breather tube then it will run like a champ all day.I am not overfilling the resivoir.Could it be a sticky thermostat? Any help would be appreciated.

Does it do this for every ride and do you refill when it does it? If you are refilling then you maybe over filling. Maybe the reservoir isn`t suppose to have coolent in it or not very much. Also at Idle it is not cooling itself very well. No snow hitting the heat exchanger for cooling, so that may explain the over heating and causing it to puke.

I just checked the BRP parts catalog online and it doesn`t show a Thermostat.???

another thing...is it the original coolant, it maybe time to change it.

Your right it shows no thermostat,it's not running long enough to overheat;the coolers are barely even warm when it does it.I am going to change the coolent out,I talked to the previous owner he said it had never done that before and he hadent changed the coolent. Will old coolent make it puke? The coolent tank does have a full cold line on it,and i'm not filling over that line.

like 4extreme said, if you are refilling every time then maybe you are over filling? There has to be a thermostat on that sled?

If the sled is "puking out" a "Cup" of antifreeze everytime it is fired up / warmed up (opperating temp) then it has to be a combustion leak into the water jacket, causing excessive pressure into the cooling system... head gasket? If it is a head gasket then you'll see it when you inspect the plugs... or your exhaust (wet & a bit slimmy instead of chaulky brown/grey).

One more thing... You said "One minute of idle time", is it possible you meant a few minutes of idle time or more? One minute will not bring your engine to opperatng temps.?

Thats the wierd part,it does it before operating temp,1min 30 secs timed it today. I tried a new rad cap, still did it.As the coolent is coming up,if you rev the motor it goes down if you let it idle it pukes its cupful then its done.130lbs comp all three holes no signs of a combustion leak this motor doesent have a stat,it has restrictors in the housing on the head.Antifreeze is good to -45. I THINK IT'S POSSESSED!!!!

When it pukes is there coolant in the reserve or is it all gone? On your next ride let it do what it does and keep checking it on your ride( carry some coolant with you). See if there is any pressure in the line by squeezing the hose. If it keeps boiling out you may have a restiction in the coolant passage some place or your pump may not be working properly. Another reason to change coolant after a few seasons because corrosion in the lines and passages. If its a blockage you may need a flush. You could have a bad head gasket and compression is pushing air fuel into the coolant passages. When the engine heats up and expands the gap may disappear and no more problem. Can you smell fuel in the coolant or see a film on top, I know it maybe hard. Any chance of a loose head bolt?

By slightly reving it up,when it was cold it kept the coolent from puking. It ran awsome all day.120km I'm going to flush and bleed the system it has to have some air in it.

I wonder if your water pump isn`t working properly and the coolant is just sitting there boiling. And when you rev it up some the pump works enough to push coolant through.

Also did you let it idle after you were out for awhile, just wondering if it over flowed after you been riding for a bit.

If you let it idle warmed up it's ok it is when the motor is cold I have the problem. The coolent is not boiling, when it overflows it's not even warm.

Maybe one of the resrictors is partially plugged. The coolant is slightly thicker at room temp than at operating temp. This causes the pressure on startup to increase enough to blow the rad cap. Pressure drops because of lower volume and coolant warms up and can flow through restrictions. That was the most unlikely-yet slightly possible senario that I could come up with, do I win a prize? Flush the system then see if it does it with straight water.(in the shop obviously)
Did I mention that I'm an electrician, not a mechanic?

I'm not so sure about him, I contacted him last year and he didn't seem to want to address my questions and when he signed on the site I again asked hime questions and did not recieve any answers.
Does anyone care to offer any feedback about his track repair services?
