hey guys.. I just picked up a used 08 summit 800. I know there's some extra pin weight in the primary but I think that's it.

I'm thinking of a new (different) spring in the primary and secondary as well as an inspection and cleaning.

It's been years since I have taken apart a clutch and no longer have the tools to disasemble them, nor do I have a puller for the primary.

1) where in Edmonton can a guy get one of those EPI yellow secondary springs, and a 160-290 primary spring? i live very close to specialty sleds.

2) is it safe to assume the only fix to the spring tower cap issue is a new oem one? or are there aftermarket parts?

3) can either clutch be removed without a puller

4) can either spring be changed without any of those disassembly tools?

if not,
5) would anyone be willing to give a guy a hand? I come with beer obviously.

I put 25mm set screws in my primary (instead of the 12mm stock ones) and the Ski-doo 160-290 spring in the primary. I got these parts from Martin Motorsports in the west end. I bought the clutch puller from Royal Distributing (27.00 instead of 54.00 from ski-doo) and you don't need a special spring puller, just some 1/2" ready rod, 1/2" nuts, and some plating or big washers. I took my sled in last month to get the drive shaft replaced (warranty) and they replaced my spare belt (166) with the wider one (377) which they wouldn't do last year when the 377 first came out, reprogrammed the ECU, replaced tunnel bolts that were rubbing on the track, did a wiring update, replaced my 21 tooth top gear with a 20 tooth, and rebuilt my primary clutch (bushing and roller wear) ALL ON WARRANTY. I would take the sled to a dealer to see if there are any updates that it needs, and see if they will do any of the clutch work on warranty. I would recommend talking to Jerry at Martin Motorsports about any of these issues/updates.

Thanks again to those who replied... with some more reading I realized I had the required components to deal with the primary and I don't think I want to deal with the QRS secondary.

Sleepy did they do the clutch work as a recall or were you having trouble?

When I got the sled last year, I was hitting the rev limiter on clicker 1 around home, and was on clicker 1 in the mountains pulling proper RPMs. As soon as I talked to Jerry about it, he said that it was a common issue, and that they would take care of it. The gear change was just a personal preference, but they covered it under warranty (I may not have changed it if it wasn't). When the sled was in this year for the driveshaft replacement, they checked the primary and found the bushings & rollers were worn, and replaced them on warranty as well. I had heard that the rollers & bushings were wearing prematurely on some of the sleds, but I didn't notice any issues with the excessive wear before they changed them.

Turns out there is a 20t top gear in already (cost me a bottle of chain case oil and a stripped chain case cover bolt to find out). I think i'll keep it like that for now.

It has 25mm set screws in already, so I'll leave that, and the violet violet (160-320) sping so I'll swap it out for a blue blue.

It is need of a good cleaning for sure but I have one last question. How do I tell if the spring tower cap worn out? TurboAl said those are responsible for a lot of the heat generated by these machines.

I guess they are a pile of $$ from the dealer, what about recreation supply?
