Pretty low pre-registrations in some of the early winter sessions. Already cancelling some classes.

This happened in 2008-09, we cancelled many fall classes then the snow hit, accidents began and snowmobilers everywhere were scrambling to find a class. By then it was too late. Don't get caught with an unprepared group.

Just an example of how reactionary our community is...the accidents of 2008-09 freaked out people enough that in Grande Prairie our class numbers jumped from 12 to 120 people due to the media attention that followed the accidents. The students were super keen in this class and swore that if we ran another class that next weekend they would fill it just as full. Too bad we didn't have the weekend available. I think they would have succeeded.
The feelings didn't last though as in the following year the Grande Prairie class ran with only 6 new students (and a couple returnees)... Our memories can be short!

Human experience is really about trial and error.
It is true that we learn best from our mistakes...but it hurts less, costs much less and takes way less time to get some training and learn from the mistakes of others. Just a thought.

If our classes don't fit your schedule, be sure to check out the Canadian Avalanche Center for a list of scheduled courses.
