Help Purchasing New Quad!

Hi Everyone, I've been out of the 4x4 atv scene for a long time and have decided it's time to get back into it with my family. However with so many great quad's on the market I'm having a really hard time choosing what quad I will be the most happy with. I will primarily be on the trail's carrying the wife from time to time, but am not afraid to play in the mud if the oportunity arises. Horsepower, Handling & Reliabilty are probably the most important to me. A friend of mine work's at a Honda dealership and is pulling me toward's the Honda Rincon 680...the price is attractive but I've gotten very mixed review's when looking into this model. I'm very opened minded to any brand....preferbly 700 or bigger. Any recomendation's/comment's would be great!

Ah yes...the milion dollar question. The skies the limit here. All brands have good and bad. Many riders are faithful to one brand or another. Power steering, big power, independent suspension that floats, the list is endless. My personal opinion is find a dealer that is reputable in a good way. One that stands behind their product when things are at there very worst. I've stuck with polaris because I've no reason to change. Very happy with service. And the 2up model worked best for us :d

If horsepower is a deciding factor for you then the Rincon may not be what you're looking for. Most guys I know with the 680 are very dissappointed. Sure you've heard this already though.

true there are alot of choices but finding a good dealer is the key, they should find out what u want to do with it, budgets, and features you are looking for and give you suggestions, not sell you one just cause they have lots of that model in stock. We sell Yamaha, Arctic Cat and Suzuki. i would be more than happy to go through any of the models that these 3 manufactures sell, and offer suggestions. we have over 180 atvs in stock! if you are looking for a specific model we most likely have it...

I have to agree here, the Rincon is not a mud/muskeg machine. I have seen them in action and would not reccomend this machine for that reason only. If you want a smooth Cadilac ride then yes by all means. I ride a Honda 500 foreman, very hard on the back but is the best for working conditions like mud and muskeg.

My recomendation would be the Yamaha Grizzly 700. I know people with the older 660 Grizzlies and put on thousands of trouble free Km's. My next machine would be the 550 Grizzly, I dont really need the stump pulling power of a 700.

After more research I'm starting to discover the Honda probably isn't the quad for me, mainly due to a lack of power and am starting to lean more towards Arctic Cat & Can-Am. I will be riding single alot but will add a 2nd seat when taking along the wife on trails. Any comment's as too passenger comfort with these quads & reliability?

If you can test drive both of these machines. I do not have any knowledge about the Artic Cats but have heard that the Can-Ams are not as nimple for tight trails, tonnes of power. The Kawasaki's make a nice unit as well. good braking system and with the twins you can make them rip your arms off. Well I hope this confusses you even more, haha :d

I bought a Can-Am 800 Outlander Max in 07. It now has 3000k on it.It has been an amazing machine. The only issue I had was overheating. The rad fins had swollen. This was repaired under warranty. 3.5 years of warranty coverage is nice to have should you need it. The new Can-ams now have power steering which makes it an even better machine.I would highly recommend it. A bit more pricey than others but worth it -imo. I purchased it at Riverside in St Albert and am very happy with the service I receive there. Should you decide on the Arctic Cat,I have heard nothing but good about Terry at TTpowersports.

I have personally driven a CanAm 800 before and loved the power....overall I felt it was a pretty good machine...maybe a little big for trail riding but I'm sure something I could get used to. However I have no experience/knowledge of the A/Cat's but am definetly interested in them.

even try this while in the show room. try and push the machine around without int running of course to see the rolling resistance. I tried this before and you would be surprised at the resistance on some machines, not very technical I will add.

Suzuki King quad is worth taking for a spin...real nice unit....Terry over at T&T could help you out. Yamaha makes a nice unti as well...he also sells them...there ya go...one stop and try'em both ...LOL

i ride a honda 500 its not the smoothest quad out there but i dont like to walk so i bought honda a honda will never let u down :d

don't buy a honda.....trust me.......!

just bought a new 700 grizzly , horrible for doubling , awesome machine for a single rider , in the market for a second machine , looking at a king quad , if its no better for doubling going to go to a canam , rode with one this weekend and by far the superior mud machine , was honda all the way for the last 10 years but to rough and under powered but reliable as heck:d

It broke down again this last weekend.Went into limp mode.
Then overheated and the rad does not look dirty.
When it does run he finds it has no power.

We all rode the same trails as well.

please post what the problem was once it is fixed , buddy had same problem wit his 660 grizzly but it just needed a good rad cleaning then was ok

I have a Honda foreman 500 yes it's rough but very reliable. I'll go through lots of mud and water and never have to worry about getting my belt wet cause I don't have one.I used to look at them big puddles before with my other quad but now I'm right in there. Sure it's not the fastest but I always come home.
This weekend my brother went out with his buddies, he came back happy Team Honda all the ways as his other four buddies learn how Canned-hams 800s don't swim when they crossed the river. Oh well If it has lots of power and you like to get yourself in trouble then go big 1000cc or 800 but make sure you have good health insurance and great dealer. Good shopping.:)

i have a Honda 680 gpscape with power steering american edition and im very impressed with the the output of this machine. my brothers have the grizzlie 700's but my honda is very comparable. the only main difference is when ur going up a big hill at higher speed it bogs down more than a grizzlie and my honda does better than a grizzlie in swamps (possibly cause its lighter). my dad just purchased a can am 2up 500 and i guess we will see how it compares to the rest. i hope this info helped you

the american versions of the 680 honda's are quicker and smoother than a canadian version. mine has independent suspension power steering and diff lock. the standard mode is awesome when towing or mudding
