This is a great example of how backwards everything is nowadays. Unless there is more to this story, the politicians and anyone supporting this ridiculous notion of fining the people who did the work and paid for this out of their own pockets should be ashamed of themselves.

With that said, I'll bet it was a fun project, sure looks like an incredible location.

if any thing its criminal to consider taking down something that has literally no negative effects on anyone or anything and helps carry on the local history that clearly no one from government did anything to preserve. makes you wonder the fait of other buildings like the mara look out years down the road.

I think its all in bad taste now. if anything they should be re naming it and putting a memorial there to honor Rene for all he has done in the community befor his passing. much better to make something positive out of a negative.

It absolutely blows my mind that they would even consider tearing this down. I agree with others that it should be named after Rene.

Can you imagine if this project would have been undertaken BY government? Would be a 3 million dollar project for the same damn thing.

Those boneheads in govt will spend 3mil tearing it down. Thinking they are doing something great to save the world

Would be nice tip of the hat to Rene if they tossed the idea of teardown and put a memorial plaque there instead

The local Indian band has adopted the structure.

If this is the case its probably its best chance for survival. Doubt the government will touch it now.
Wonder if they would be adverse to naming it after Rene or as others have said installing a memorial plaque?

It seems to me someone installing a plaque outlining the history of the original structure and Rene's efforts to rebuild wouldn't hurt the issue. I did not know the fellow but obviously well known and liked. If there is indeed an adoption by a local band then that would help possibly as well. Sometimes people just forget about it if it falls out of the news/discussion cycle.

It would be a real shame to dismantle such a well built structure.

Doubt it.

Maybe snow and mud could splurge for a plaque........
