I think its stupid if you ask me someone who pumps money in to a truck is going to keep it maintained and safe. Why don't they go after all the un cared for beaters out there that probably are not safe.

It's not about safety, it's about revenue generation. Funny, REDford blows the budget with grade 2 forecasting skills and all of sudden they are all hot and bothered to serve and collect??
Traffic safety act as most laws are, is so vague a cop can write a ticket for almost anything at any time.

does anyone know the exact laws on some of these things they are talking about? height of lift, based on front bumper? and exahust, are they basing it on sound to the ear or an actual sound level test or ammount of black smoke or are they doing an on the spot emmission test?

i understand thre tint and the tint on lights, some guys make it impossible to see their brake lights!

what is a modification to raise or lower headlights? i thought a lot of high end cars have those... self leving headlights, are those deemed illegal?

dont quote me on this but i believe as long as your bumpers are within the legal distance from the ground and your mud flaps are as well there is no really "law" on how high you can lift a truck. as far as noise violations i think you'll be hard pressed to break the legal db limit with a truck exhaust unless you strait pipe it with cherry bombs or some chit. and i hope they pull every set of improperly installed HID's out right on the spot

I believe the regulation in BC for lifted vehicles deals more with the height of headlights from the road surface than anything else. That is why you will see some with the front bumper lowered and lights mounted down there, those are the guys who have been caught already and had to modify to stay on the road. In my opinion before you should be allowed to insure or renew insurance the broker should go and look at the vehicle to advise if it will be illegal. They shouldn't be allowed to sell you plates and insurance for something it isn't legal to drive.

This is my understanding as well. It is the height of the headlights as measured from the ground. I will see if I can use some of my spare time to find the measurement.

This is the requirement in BC:
Headlamps

4.05
(1) A motor vehicle must be equipped with either one or 2 headlamps mounted on each side of the front of the vehicle and capable of displaying white light.

(2) The headlamps must be mounted at a height of not less than 56 cm and not more than 1.37 m.

"height" , when used with respect to a lamp or reflector, means the vertical distance as measured from the road surface to the centre of a lamp or reflector of an unloaded vehicle on a level road surface;

Here is the Alberta regulation:

Division 1 Headlamps
Location
(1) A motor vehicle, other than a motor cycle or moped, must have at least 2 headlamps, one on each side of the front of the motor vehicle.
(2) A headlamp must be mounted so that the centre of the headlamp is not more than 1.4 metres and not less than 560 millimetres above ground level when the motor vehicle is not loaded.

The cop that pulled me over a month ago said that as soon as you modify the height of the vehicle it is illegal, it doesn't matter how much, I even asked about a leveling kit on the front and he said still illegal because it is out of compliance with that traffic safety act bs stuff
