Hey peoples.

I am starting to sled with a large group in the mountains and they all have HD helmet cams, but they are interested in some perspective shots that we can mix into a more professional style video of the trips.

We looked into some actual HD DV camcorders and they lack the zoom power to catch people from distance (and altitude) and will most likely not handle the abuse of mountain riding. And cost was an issue as well.

I thought, I have a really nice 70-300mm VR lens for my Nikon D80 DSLR, we could just get a new body that records 1080P and use that. Looking into that further, I ran across the soon to be released D7000. It has a magnesium housing that the professional models use, so it would be very rugged and captures 1080p @ 24fps.

Does anyone that shoots HD video of sled activity have any advice before I drop $1200 on a new body? Would really like some feedback and pointers on how the amazing videos are taken in the wild :)

Thanks ;)
