My husband and I were riding our snowmobiles on Hastings Lake yesterday. On the North side, we rode through 2 very soft slushy areas, sinking in a little, that were not too far from the shoreline. They snuck up on us. There were other snowmobile tracks through these areas also. Does anyone know if there is an underground spring in these areas? Has anyone encountered this in previous years? We also wondered if someone may be emptying their septic into the lake. Does anyone know of any other areas of the lake that lack integrity?

Also we were wondering if we could reach the Ministik/ Hay Lake trail systems from Hastings Lake without riding in the ditch.

Thunder lake is the same way. Thinking it has more to do with the 20 plus inches of snow on ice that isn't that thick yet. All that weight pushing down on the ice is causing the water to push up through cracks caused by that weight.

yes, and it is called "overflow"....be wary as one can be stuck for hours without even breaking through the ice.......ah the problems of sledding in the North!
