Not sure we'll ever get a new hospital, our $510 million hospital looks like it will now cost $763 million, and on top of it the province now needs to find a new contractor to finish the job. What kind of bone-head really thinks you can fire the entire construction management company when a project is near completion and hire a new one and have it done cheaper and faster?

It is a “rare occurrence” for a contract to be terminated at this stage of construction she added. Around 100 per cent of the exterior and 75 per cent of the interior work has been completed, she confirmed.

Yeah I'd like to know what happened there too, Graham is claiming client driven changes and associated re-work were causing the cost and schedule overrun.

That's the story here in town too. Sounds like the amount of rework due to design changes has been immense. It's too bad, construction has actually been getting somewhere in the last year, the park-aid structure is finally up and the exterior looks nearly complete.

Im sure it will get completed sooner or later.
But im not sure who's going to want to take it on now though.

I work for a GC here in Edmonton, overheard a few corporate folk talking about this potential 'opportunity'. Not so sure I'd want to go clean up someone's else's mess, but then again it's work if someone's looking for work.

If it's a T&M or cost-plus job its nothing but $$$. A real headache for the workers, supervisors and managers picking up the pieces, but lots of easy cash for the company.

Yeah sounds like a nightmare to me.
But for the right price could be worth it.

Depends on the real story....
Fired or Graham walked?
Graham is a large company, they likely have their ducks in a row way more than the govt does.
Was part of a 18 school K1-9 JV with Graham, they are a top 10 Canadian GC for a reason!
If Graham was wrongfully released it could get very expensive for the taxpayers!!!!
If there were scope and huge design changes Graham will bend the NDP over and let them have it deep and dry!!!!
Loss of profit and reputation damage - hope all you NDP voters are happy.

True story will not see the light of day until all is settled a couple years from now. No one will expose their hand until then.

And 75% complete of the interior of a hospital is likely a guess and on a hospital 75% is far from complete since that is the vast majority of a hospital's cost.
Could easily still be 100m from complete.
