I have been running spot trace devices the last couple years after having trailer and side by sides stolen, they work great but subscription getting expensive just got email that they are upping charge per unit to 165 US per year. Wondering if anyone has experience with other / lower cost devices?

How about getting a cheap cell phone, hardwire to battery, add it to your data plan, install an app that broadcasts it's loaction every hour or on demand.

That's great if you only ever ride in an area with cell service.

I have been using the InReach for awhile and have zero complaints about it. The two way texting is great and when you have the app on your phone makes typing extremely easy plus provides a gps mapping app but I also have my Garmin Rino for a primary gps.

With InReach you can suspend the plan for a few bucks online at anytime which I did for summer but while camping this last month we were awaiting on our house sale/purchase so I just go online and turn it on and then had it available for communicating. Then turned it off again until winter.

The plans are decent. I like the tracking feature and sharing the link with my girlfriend so she can get an idea when we are coming down late.

So depending on your needs you could get a basic plan then suspend it for any months you don't require it.

From doing some google research looks like spot at 165 per year is about same as the rest that Do not rely on cell service.

Problem with many of these little units is they require a cellphone signal. No good in areas without signal, and there are still plenty of those.

I sure will once they arrive. This seems like a perfect solution to our problems.... If it works like it should.
They arent even available yet...Not until Feb 2018 and that would be best case scenario.
