I know these have been talked about a few times on here.....

My Query is with the US model at 5 watt and the CDN model at 2 watt.

In the radio world the extra 3 watts is a big deal……so looking to see if anyone has field tested the two versions and if it would be a problem bringing them into Canada......

We're also looking at getting a couple of those...we have a buddy who has the US version and he rides with dudes with the Can version...he says to get the US one if we can...he finds he has better/further reception on his compared to theirs. He brought his in from States and we're looking into doing the same. He says there's no other issues bringing it in...that he's found anyways.
I have a riding buddy coming up from the States in the next couple weeks, might have her bring them up if possible.

Geekdeals off ebay, he will ship them up to you quick and the 5 watters are worth it. Geekdeals are probily the cheapest you will find. That is who I got mine through and really good people to deal with.

I picked up a 5W model at Maptown in Calgary. I actually returned it because the radio quit working after a month and they replaced it with a 5W model. I'm not sure if they always have 5W models or if this was a freak thing but it may be worth looking into.

Geekdeals.com for me as well. Shipping to Okotoks was $20. Didn't get charged any brokerage fees.

Theres another company I cant stand UPS.....to many companies we've ordered race goodies from like to use UPS so have lots of horror storries. They even tried to collect brokerage fees three months after we had the goods....seems they forgot and some beanie caught it, never did pay that bill.

But it seems hit and miss with USPS re paying brokerage, seems our posties get thier hands on it, then the gouge and screw tax guys want thier monies and it's 50/50 that we get charged a brokerage fee, but it's peanuts compared to what UPS charges....

The 5w ones are the same as the 2w ones. I think that the 5's have a setting and you are supposed to turn them down. Maybe somebody knows some of the rules about them with the FCC. i know there is laws, but I didn't know that my radio was at 5W.

You never will as long as the seller is willing to ship USPS and not UPS!!

I actually had two items come in on the same day. Both came USPS. One I was charged $8.00 for gst and duty, the other from geekdeals I wasn't charged any extra's.

I bought mine at the GPS store in windfield BC. was told it was the US version that is 5 watts. Not to sure on the quality on Garmin now since I have had two right out of the packages not work right. taking the second one back to get a third now! I just hate the 3 hour drive for a repacement but it was the closest store that sold the Garmin GPS. They need to work on a better product support service!
