Yep initial cost to get into the sport keeps lots of people out, used stuff for one person is not cheap when you have to buy all of it to get started. But then when you say, well i want it to be a family thing we can all do, it's a huge amount of money. First I got into it, then got my wife into it, then we had a kid and got her into it (first a 120 and now a 200 snoscoot) so it was spread out pretty good, And still wasn't cheap. Now My wife comes with me on pretty much all mountain trips which is awesome but double the money. We live out of town with access to the little red deer river and dogpound creek 1/4 mile from home so we get to ride from home, If we lived in town I doubt we'd get out near as much as we do. This year aside we put on more miles around home than in the hills and as stated above we just like to be on a sled, don't care where.

When I started in 2010 my uncle took me out to revy and let me borrow his 2002 doo 800 and I had never rode a sled before, Unloaded at sale and got stuck about 10 times on the trail up. Once we got up to the top, I just remember thinking how beautiful it is up there, it's unbelievable I was stuck all day and wore out by the end of it, but coming down that trail I knew I was hooked on sledding. Most of the time it only takes one day up there, that's why I try to take as many new people out as I can. It went from just me in our group to now up 10 that come out.

Don't be selfish trying to keep all the pow for yourself, take newbies out, especially to the mountains, it's a great feeling when they're thanking you at the end of the trip. You will end up with more riding buddies and epic multi day multi sled trips in huge rented cabins with the greatest of memories.

In the future we will cease to be sledders and revert back to outlaws due to terrain noise & power restrictions.

I don't think it's a good idea for me to be sharing all the fresh pow back in the widow maker bowl with a bunch of newbies.

Maybe if they sign waivers first lol

UCP 30 dollar all trail access fee for AB will be nice next winter.

Read the act again. It has nothing to do with snowmobiles. OHV’s are referred to in the act as motorcycles and 4x4 offroad vehicles.

If you want to preserve the trails for winter use, join a club and pay the trail fees.

Joined the clubs paid the fees for 30 yrs and have consistently seen terrain reduction. Rather ride a pow logging rd than a groomed trail. Optimistic about a change from the lefties. Outlaws it is.
