My 2011 is always showing full, I checked and they said there was a bulletin for that, something about putting a washer on the area of the fuse. I will be bringing it in another 80 kms, 500 kms or 10 hrs check up. I am getting great mileage though, better than my 2008

Ya I was talking to me dealer and he said there is a bulletin out about a shim for the sender on the 2011's due to a new tank design, but its not for the 09's

My dealer told me to change the fuse from the stock one which I believe was .25A to a 1 A and it seemed to help it out. It doesn't make a lot of sense electrically but it could be an impedance or capacitance issue. :dunno:

2 things to check before changing anything

#1 - fuel guage is not quick reacting. you need to be parked on flat ground for a few seconds engine idling before it will give you an acurate reading.

#2 - if you do the "burp the tank" trick. your fuel guage will not work correctly.

I wonder why burping the tank would do this? My gauge is a rough idea, at best most times.

THe guage stopped working properly last year and have been burping the tank since new, but my dealer found the sender to be bad last year and replaced it this year but its still not working, it will go down to one bar sometimes but never goes over one bar above half and usually stays there. Have you ever had any issues Sean or have a fix?

none of the xp fuel guages on any of the xps in my group including my own work very well. mine works on my 2010 if i do not add any extra fuel from burping the tank and let it sit on flat ground. but other than that it reads low fuel most of the day. and the other ones just plain never work with any acuracy over 50%.

i dont have a fix i know there is many thing you can try like mentioned above. i just know my xp tank lasts me a good days riding and i have extra on the back if need be.

Makes sense and I do the same and ride with extra but its just a pain when it used to work 100% and not now, plus my warranty is up in feb so I'm nitpicking everything with the dealer.

Some of the float sensors get hung up on the side of the tank. I tried rotating the float a bit but mine actually required removal and bending the arm so full was full and empty was empty. I'm not sure if it was accurate in between but it was much better over all.

I played with my guage to try and get it a little more accurate, heard that rotating the sending unit ass'y may cure the problem and tried that. I used a long flexible shaft pickup magnet and moved the sending unit float arm up and down to make sure it wasn't binding on the side of the tank. it reads full when I top it up, but light seems to come on early after it gets below half. like max said....just pack the caddy and ride. if i ever use the fuel in the caddy, it's been an epic day....

Is it possible to measure to the bottom of the tank and possibly find some old style cap (that displays fuel level on it) that fits... I like my cat cap for this... Open it up and see right on in to look for myself.
