Hi all.

I'm considering getting a low mileage 2012 super duty F250 with the 6.2. It won't be getting driven much so I'm not super concerned with mileage. Will be using it mostly to pull the holiday trailer, jet boat, enclosed, and as a hunting truck. Will likely put a sled deck on it.

I had a 2011 f350 diesel so I'm familiar with the trucks. Just not too sure how this engine will do. Not too interested in another diesel.

Thanks!

Ive had a 2011 and a 2013 6.2L. Motor has more than enough juice to pull/haul whatever you need. It is thirsty if your on the gas like any other motor. Pulling my 32' holiday trailer with it loaded plus with stuff in the box I usually average around 28L/100 and the truck has 3:73 ratio. Empty I have seen as low as 14-15L/100 at 110km/hr. Pulling the jetboat around it averages about 20-22L/100 at 110 km/hr. Basically once you put something on the hitch you will see 20L+/100km. When I put the sled deck on im happier with it averaging about 18L/100km. The Ford has a 140L gas tank I think. Overall Im happy with the 6.2L motor.

I've towed with them a fair bit, mileage towing is pretty poor, averaged 30L/100K or so depending on terrain. Engine pulls pretty good as long as you "gear it low and rev it high". The engine seems to make all it's power upstairs, I suggest you get the upgraded stereo so you don't have to listen to it scream. If they have the small tanks in the SB go for a LB as even with a LB/big tank you have to plan your stops since I've gone as low as 350/tank.

I have 26ft 8000 lb trailer and a 20ft inboard jet boat. My 2012 6.2, f250 4x4 crew cab gets same numbers towing them as yours.

I have a couple good buddies that own them and the above pretty much applies. They have power but will rev out on the hills and they are thirsty. The guy with stock tires and no levelling kit gets decent empty mileage the guy that is levelled with big rubber gets terrible mileage every where. Neither have had any issues with the trucks or drivetrain.

Had a 2011 crew long box with 4:30 ratio.
Leveling kit one 285 rubber.
17 average with sled deck empty.
Pulling 8000 lbs 22-25

Pulled really well with lower gears due to a rpm motor.

12.5 l/100 on the way to Lethbridge and 35.5 on the way home.

I posted the above in another thread that I started with the intent of purchasing and researching a holiday trailer. I purchased a 25' four season Black Rock with a GV of 2968 kg or 6600#.
I have a 2013 F350 4x4, long box with the 6.2. The winds were strong in the neighbourhood of 100 km (they switched from left to right and head on as we drove). It was a struggle on some of the hills and I was in manual using the shifter. The truck handled it but some of the little hills were only at 70-80 km/h. and down to 3rd gear. When I got out of the hurricane, I was able to drive in 5th and 4th gear for the last hour home. Wind is not your friend with a trailer of any kind and this motor. I have no problem with 2 sleds on the deck and I can average 18-20 l/100 on trips at 100-110 km/h. Hope this gives you a little insight.

Careful putting a sled deck and 2 sleds on the f250? Loaded with gear etc, might be close to going over gvwr?? You might want to check that out first??
Might be worth checking but with the lighter weight of the gas motor compared to the diesel I doubt it would be over.

Is that the v-10? If so, we have them in our service trucks. Fairly decent motor. I drive mine loaded towing 5,000 LBS for the last 30,000KM usually idling or full throttle. Has held up quite nicely!

A 6.2 is a V8

My 6.2 2012 has been good, good power, but likes fuel, mine is a 350 dually, 4.30 gears, gets about 19th per 100 empty, and 25 to 30 loaded up heavy, it burns no oil between changes, I have 35000km so far

Looks like Ford doesn't differentiate between motors for payload. About 2000 to 4000Lbs lower towing capacity for the 6.2 gasser over the diesel depending on cab and gear ratio.

The diff between the f250 and f350 isn't just payload, anything over 10000# gvw gets a de-tuned 6.2 with 316hp and 396 ft.lb, everything under that gets 385 hp and 405 ft.lb. the torq is all that much less but i have noticed the the f350 do have a little less jam. We have sold a ton of f250's and installed the pro comp add a leaf kit just to stiffen up the rear a bit and it seems to work really well. Not gonna help if your over weight but helps with the saggy rear in the f250's.
